Riots at High Point...

Just saw the local news that said 41 people were arrested for rioting at High Point last night. One man was stabbed. It appears that the cause was intoxicated stupidity. Racer Promotions has already stated that alcohol will be prohibited at next years race. I believe that they said that last year though.

This news is not exactly the PR that this sport needs.

It is one of the sad realities of our sport and the fans it attracts. I enjoy a beer as much as the next guy but if they can't control a crowd that drinks maybe thats the way to go. I saw the intoxicated mob mentality take over at Redbud one year and they started setting fire to outhouses and cars. It was one of the ugliest moments I have ever seen :| :|

I went to Red Bud in 2000 , I have never seen people leave such a mess. I thought the 50 dollars they charged for camping a rip off until I saw what they were going to have to clean up after everyone left.

I am going to hit another national this year , anyone have suggestions as to the best one?

Was not there Sat night, but when we went though the gate Sun morning I was talking to the girl collecting the money. She said was for the most part - underage teenagers. She told me they took out 2 school bus loads of kids they arrested, they had 36 cops there plus a helicopter, apparently some of the geniuses set someones truck on fire too in addition to the stabbing, fights, etc. What gets me is all I heard yesterday while I was visiting family & friends was about "the riot at the DITBIKE race" and I was asked numerous times if I was there - why do I go to THOSE THINGS and so on. I calmy tried to explain to everyone that at the actual race sunday - I didn't see one drunk or even a single security guard, I'm sure they were there, but it was one of the most mellow High Point races I've seen in the past 10 years since I've been going. I told everyone the best I could how the majority of the people there on sunday were families with children and were true moto-x fans & how the people there on sat night causing the problems were not. It's amazing how the people that could care less about the race and only want to party & drink, ruin it for all the other people there.

My solution - no camping unless your a racer or with a racer - everyone should have to register & get a special camping permit if you have paid and entered the amateur day races. It seems like that would stop the pre-race riots that occur on the Sat nights.

I just posted this in another thread on this:

Red and his buddies went to High Point last year - said Saturday night was completely out of control. He said the only time the cops went into the crowd was when someone was hurt and needed help pretty much. Other than that - they just let the party go on.

Red Bud used to be really out of control on Saturday night, too. And over the past 5 years I have seen a big improvement. Thy went from basically no rules (where people set everything on fire - new bathroom facilities, house furniture, port-a-johns, etc. - and people threw glass bottles at the cops... people flipping over cars, etc...) to now strictly segregating the party crowd from the rest, not allowing bottles, fireworks, house furniture, searching your vehicles, hauling out anyone who gets out of hand, shutting the gates at night, etc.

I have seen a few of national tracks go to NO alcohol. Yes it will bring in smaller crowds, but it will weed out a lot of the problems, too. It's a shame that people behave so nuts at nationals.
