I'm thinking about selling my 01 RM250 for a 4stroke. After riding with guys on them I see how easy they do things, especially the soft sand. I'm torn between a 450f or a 250f. Which would be better suited for me and which ones to look for? I'm not looking for a brand new one btw, maybe a few years older like 02ish.

I'd go with the 450 cause you've been riding a 250 around and moving to a 250f would be like downsizing.

How much faster is a 250 2t than a 250f? Im not gonna lie I'm just as fast on a 125 as I am on the 250, the only place the 250 is faster is on a straight away. I wanna do a 450 but I think it will be too much of a bike for me.

I'd go with the 450F. At least you know you'll never outgrow it :)

And theres no such thing as too much bike!!

go for the 450. Be ready to pull out your checkbook and haul it to the shop though. They have way too much maintenance. I had a 2003 crf 450. I replaced the valves 4 times in a year and a half span. After the fourth time I sold it and bought a 2002 kx 250, I haven't had near the trouble. I preffer my 250 2 stroke over any 450 4 stroke. It's got just as much power. and now I can actually ride my bike instead of taking that junker 4 stroke into the shop all the time. 2 STROKES ALL THE WAY!!!!

i just have to say that if you changed out valves four times in alittle over a year either you got a lemon, bad valve job, or you need to look at your riding technique (stay off the rev-limiter) these four strokes shouldnt take half the maintenance some of the guys are talking about.
most of this extra work is because most these guys jump off a 2-stroke and onto a 4-stroke. you shouldnt ride the two bikes the same, you dont have to rev a 4-stroke to an inch of its life all the time, they have lots of power everywhere not just at wide open. :yikes:
