Rust on shock shaft???

I am restoring an older bike. There is some rust on the shock shaft. I dont want to spend the cash to rechrome it. What can I use to clean it up.

On a shock i dont think anything will work other than rechroming or a new shaft.

Depending on how old somtimes a bike salvage yard might have what you are looking for. On the other hand what you might pay. it might be cheaper to get it rechromed
