I added a lower link to my wr250F and they stated in the instructions to reset the sag. I read the manual and do not think that will set the sag properly since it is referencing taking the measurement differences from the axle to the fender which has now changed with the lower link. Am I thinking correctly? Is there a better way to verify the sag is still correct? I have not changed the sag since I 1st got the bike in 03.

If the company that made the link stated to do it to stock, then it should be fine. You should check your static sag also. It would be terrible if a guy put a lowering link in, and all he needed was a lighter spring.

Regardless of what you did to the suspension, you still check and set the sag the same way.

You aren't shooting for a particular distance from the fender to the rear axle bolt, just the difference in the distance.

It could be 500 mm static, or it could be 400 mm. The only important part is the difference between that first measurement and the weighted measurement.

Cause the link will change the geometry of the swingarm with and without weight on it.

Not sure what kind of link you used, but koubalink.com has a nice explanation of what you are trying to accomplish and a couple other considerations (like whether you are also lowering your front) on their site under "install instructions". (I don't think they make a link for the wr250f, but the explanation on sag is good.)

(The yamalink install instructions aren't quite as broad/general.)

Oh: Found this- no time to preview it- but videos are great in my estimation.

or the wmv install instructions:

Edit: Had a chance to take a quick peek- not really of help to your question, but a nice reference for anyone who does a search on this topic, so I'll leave it here.

Thanks guys. I dropped the front by 1 inch also to try and keep the same geometry. I will set my static sag per the manual. I want to read all the useful links that were attached. All, thanks for the info.
