I always clutch and i never really back off the gas when i upshift cause i figure if you have good enough clutch control you should be able to let it out smoothly enough for it to not loose any power or cause any damage. the spike in the rmp when i let it out doesnt really make the wheel spin out of control so im not loosing any power that way and with the time it takes it made up with the spike in the rpm when i get to the next gear.

You will do well to learn to use your clutch on starts of coarse, corners to control power, when you need to loft the front wheel, on landings as well and in very slippery stuff. Keep 1 finger on the lever ALWAYS. Do not be afraid to use the clutch not abuse it.
