My brother is in Harrisburg, PA. I'm in Tulsa, OK. He has a CR125 for my son he needs to ship to Tulsa. he's tired of crating and paying $300.00+ shipping bikes to me and waiting forever for them to arrive with no firm delivery date.

Solution, he took it apart, packed it in 4 boxes and shipped it today via Fedex Ground for $141.00. Took him right at 8 hours to disassemble, box and drop it at Fedex. Did this today, 12/20 and I'll have it 12/23 (i.e., 3 days!!!!).

Here's the breakdown for the 4 boxes:

1. 468678550202870 (95lb) frame/engine
2. xxxxxxxxxxxxx2887 (56lb) wheels
3. xxxxxxxxxxxxx2894 (85lb) forks/swingarm/shock/bars/exhaust/brakes
4. xxxxxxxxxxxxx2900 (23lb) plastic/subframe/exhaust.

Pretty cool huh! As far as I know this is a first.

I'm not sure what type box he used for the 95 lb. engine/frame. I'll post the answer when it arrives. I'm sure he just used regular, sturdy cardboard for the other boxes.

FWIW, FedEx Ground will ship packages up to 150lbs. Overall dimension limits are 108" length; 165" in combined length plus girth.

I hoped someone would know where that came from. :)

Bike arrived in the boxes in great shape in 3 days as scheduled. Took about 8 hours to put it together. Only took this long as I did all the bearings and other maintenance items while putting it together. Would have taken about 4 hours if I just bolted every thing back together. Runs great.

BTW, my brother used heavy duty Craftsman toolbox boxes he cut to custom fit. Hell of a deal!!!

People have for a long time taken bikes back to the UK from the US as hand luggage-they strip them down and then suitcase them-they pay for the extra weight but it works out worth it-alot of work but it pays.

I brought a 1991 Honda CRM 250 back from Hong Kong in my luggage a few years back. Forgot to pack the gas tank & had to take it as carry on.
