snow/winter riding

does anyone know how paddle tires work in snow3-7or8 inches? does anyone stll make those snowmobile tracks that attach to your bike? thanks

Karl's buddy Krazy Timmy put cleats on the rear tire of his CR500 year before last. He was able to keep up with the snowmobiles, until he crashed and the cleats nearly ripped one of his cheeks off - through his riding pants!!! :scream:

I think that was the end of his snowriding bug.

We ride in a bit of snow but, not when there's enough for the snowmobiles, that's when it's time to switch toys.

I rode quite a bit in the snow last winter in the pastures. I had a fairly new knobby on the back, and it worked fine. I too have been pondering a paddle tire for this winter, mainly for some awesome roosting videos. I had a KDX 200 last winter, so I am anxious to ride my KX 250 in it this year.:cool:

What kind of jetting issues are involved when riding in cold temps like that?

If you have the funds..try some Trelleborg factory studded tires!! My bro has a front/rear set for his CR250...he accelerates and brakes as if it is dry, loamy soil...when actually the ground is frozen solid!! I think the Trelleborg company was bought out but the tires are still available???

I'm with bbborm, as it gets deeper it gets less fun, you can hardly walk though the woods here in a normal winter. OK you can but you don't really want to! Besides 30-40 below F is kinda cool for vented jerseys. :sill:

Plenty of people do ride on the ice though, at least around here. Not me though during the winter I have to suffer my wife's snowmobile passion. So my decision is predetermined.

None, i ride when its +25 to -25 and i never jet my bike and its works great all year around. Maybe a few turns on the airscrew to make it idle when i take it out a cold day. Actually i dont know anyone over here that jet their bikes, never seen anyone doing it at the tracks either, maybe its something strange about sweden :)

A bike will lean out during cold weather/richen in hot humid weather. Do a plug check when you go out to do your cold weather riding. The bike can actually run hotter due to slower speeds combined with faster engine speeds due to tire spin.

I seized an air-cooled two stroke once! The cylinder got so packed with snow it couldn't cool enough. Keep your Radiator clear of snow!
