Is it normal for a KDX to be shift sensitive between 1st & 2nd? How about a slight hesitation when accelerating from a closed throttle? Thanks!

I think I ocasionally miss a shift or two but nothing to often. The hesitation is probably jetting related. Find out what jetting You have and what possition the clip on your needle is set at and post them. You'll get lots of help. Good luck.

No and no. By shift sensitive, do you mean you get neutral when trying to shift from 1st to 2nd? If so, eliminate the obvious stuff first. Make sure the shifter isn't catching on anything, and maybe try a different tranny oil, eg 10w40 motor oil. Also, shift forcefully - give it a good stomp when going from 2nd to 1st.

The hesitation off idle sounds like a jetting issue. Have you had a look at the carb tuning article on the justkdx site?

Try turning the air screw in all the way until it seats and then back it out 1/4 turn. Only takes a couple seconds...see if THAT cures the hesitation.
