Spark Arrester regulations in Cali

I have an '02 CR250, and it does not come with a spark arrester (duh), but the DMV just sent me a green sticker. I guess the law changed from '98 and up to Jan 1, '03 and newer for red stickers.

Now, does having a green sticker allow me to ride everywhere even though I don't have a spark arrester? I swear I read somewhere before that if your bike was not equipped with a spark arrester, then you are not required to have one. Is this true, and does someone have a link to something I can print up in case I ever get f***ed with? Just last weekend, the rangers were poking sticks down peoples' pipes at El Mirage, so I jumped on my bike and boned out before they came over to us.

I just don't want to get f***ed with.

Thanks,
Eric

Unfortunately, you need a spark arrestor in California if you want to ride in State and County parks, whether or not the bike came with it or not. They changed the green sticker law to any bike before '03 gets a green. Makes it nice to be able to ride anywhere year-round. They are only getting tighter on looking for the spark arrestor. And now you also have to meet the 96db sound limit also. I have noticed more and more sound checks throughout NoCal. As far as performance loss, the spark arrestor doesn't give up too much. I noticed a little loss on the bottom from my shorty silencer.
