Sponsors'

Just a quick question. What is it that FMF, Pro Circuit, AXO, etc. actually does as far as sponsoring? Will they help cover entry fees or what?
Looking forward to Reno and being able to ride with some other women. The husband surprised me over thanksgiving while riding in Reno with an 02 KLX 300. I see that HoJo has suggested the
"moonrocks", awesome place to ride. There is actually a great place to camp at right there and easy access. We had the toyhauler there for 4 days over Thanksgiving, great riding except Saturday when it snowed.

In general sponsors will give you discounts on product. FMF gives about 20%. I have not heard of them paying for entries unless you are Mike Lafferty. Resumes' usually need to be mailed by October 15th.

Hi phirechick-

I race MX and have been doing the whole sponsor/resume thing for the past few years for both myself and my fiancé - so hopefully I can help answer your questions. Most of the companies in the industry have different levels of sponsorship that range from 10% off to free product. For example - a company like Boyesen/Twin Air has 6 different levels of rider's support. FMF is another company that has several different levels of support. And most companies will also include promotional items (T-shirts, hats, banners, stickers, samples, etc...) at no charge. As far as actually getting money - this is usually on a pro level only basis except for some sponsors who offer cash contingencies at certain races/events. And in order to obtain sponsorships - you need to send a resume to the companies or contact them and tell them about yourself, your accomplishments, your goals, what you can do for them, and what you are looking for from the company. Most deadlines for sponsorship requests are Sept. - Dec. but some companies accept resumes year-around. Hope that helps answer your questions.

Nikki and Girlrider,
Thanx for the info. I was just curious as to how much support you were
given at the local levels. It seems by just reading, that women can get sponsors a little easier than the men, but then the competion out there for the men is also greater.

Phirechick, good luck with sponsorships. I'd look at the local level as well--most dealerships support their racers quite a bit. In fact, send in your resume to us (BBR)--we have both parts and suspension service and are still coordinating our 2002 racer support program.

What kind of racing will you be doing? I might be going to quite a few of the nationals. Will you be racing the WML races? If so, I might be there with my roommate. I'd also like to go to as many of the WORCS off-road races as I can, and I'll be at the Glen Helen 4-stroke race in April for my job.

Hope you make it to Reno, you won't be missing out. It was a ball last year.

firecracker22,
First off, I hope your healing well!! As of right now I'm not in the market for Sponsors. I need to have the time to go after that kind of comittment 100%.
As far as WORCS goes I'll try and make Honeylake. We've (family) have already been there a few times and loved it. It a great track if you like to go fast. My problem is work and the summer. I work weekends (24hrs.) Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That shoots racing right there. Vacation is due in the year before and the schedules for 2002 were not quit out yet. Who knows, I could come down with the "blue flu". For now I plan on going to the Reno ride. I've been up there anyway riding every weekend. Hopefully we'll go to the "moonrocks". Where did you ride last year?
