I was wondering who all is going to go to the Spring Mud Fling? I hope to finally go to the race, but only if I can find a new bike in time. Does anybody know of an XR200R in good shape for sale? Hope to see you guys there.

I had surgery on my left hand about a month ago. I meet the Doc on Wednesday and he will let me know if I can start riding again. If I can, I doubt it would be strong enough for a race, especially my first:scream:

That sucks. This will be my first race after surgery, but the Airway Heights races are pretty easy as far as terrain goes, so I think I'll be ok. Good luck at your doctor visit.

Lots of rocks, dust if it's dry, mud if it's wet. There are no steep hills or trees, and the trail is pretty wide. The MX track is way cool--one of my favorites--and the trails are a combination of old, burned in trails that you can rail because they're worn down like a ditch and new ones with off camber rough corners. The crappiest part of the whole thing is the part where you have to PUSH your bike across the road (there's a checkpoint there so no fudging) but it's not too bad. It's a pretty high speed, hang onto the bars course. They usually run it about 7 miles long and they give you a parade lap so you know where you're going (though I've never gotten lost--it's fairly well marked). I always go back and forth about taking the parade lap--in one respect, then you know where you're going, but on the other hand, you waste precious energy. I wouldn't recommend iron-manning it unless you've done it before.

Like FC22 said, it is a pretty beginner friendly course. Just be sure to hold your line, especially over the jumps on the MX Track to make sure some of the high flyers don't land on you.

I usually try to stay to the side over the jumps because the guys that take them big are usually doing it more to the middle section.

As for the road crossings do NOT stop on the plywood crossing, especially if it is wet. I did that on the first lap last year and as soon as my boot hit the wood woosh went my foot, flop went the bike and ouch went my butt. It shoved the barkbuster into the throttle and I finished the first lap with a very sticky throttle - not pretty on my 500. Got it fixed back at the pit but, it made for an exciting first lap!

Karl & I will be team 007 again, in the Geritol Class. My son may do it but he needs a partner for the 80's class. Anyone know of an 80 rider looking for a partner?:aj:

Actually, I might be over there on Saturday, might be up for a half day ride but I was thinking 7-mile. Dunes later on in the month?

Yeah! Firecracker i'm in for the Spring Mud Fling! It will be nice to race on new bikes this time. :)

At the Scare Scramble we actually didn't have to push our bikes across the road, they put together a different section instead. It was pretty nice, though part of it had some loose sand and I crashed pretty hard around a corner.

I think 7mile still might have snow, and the weather forcast says snow for tomorrow too. Super Ick, I'm ready for sunny Spring days.

Barring any unforseen circumstances, I'll be there as well. Hopefully this time we'll get to complete the day. My brother was all ready to try again after last year's bad get-off, but unfortunately he grenaded his rear hub on his 426. :ugg:

My Dad & I may do parent/child again (but it kinda looks weird, and we still get beat by the kids on 80s!), but more than likely the 70 combined.

And DG is right! It was kind of a grass/gravel track in the ORV parking area. Like riding on marbles in some places!

FC&DG, By the looks of things you may want to take your ice spikes for this weekend:think I don't think it's going to melt.
