hi there.
i have a technical questions i am hoping you can offer some advice.
i have an XR400, I stripped one of the oil filter cover screws (6mmx1mm thread).
is there any problem with repairing the thread with a Helicoil?
the threads that are stripped is the forward, closer to the front of the bike.
thanks for your time and input.

Nothing wrong with it if you can get it to work. I had a similar issue with one of the oil lines on my XR250/284 and the countershaft sprocket guard. The one I placed in the countershaft sprocket guard mounting hole worked perfectly (I was installing a Kiwi Case Saver) but the one on the oil line was nothing but a hassle. Mind you this was on a brand new side case as FedEx had cracked it when the engine was shipped so the bolt had been installed and removed exactly once. I finally pulled it off and took it to a local welder to have it TIG welded and then re-drilled and tapped.
