I am brand new to these fourms and it looks like a good fourm. Any ways my question is about a dual purpose bike. The drz-400 suzki i have been looking at buying in a little bit and was wondering if this bike will be any good? This would be my very first bike. I have experince on a mini bike which is not comparable but at least i got experince on riding on 2 wheels. I need a bike that can get me back and forward to school but i also wanna be able to go and ride on the trails on the weekend. So far i have heard good things about this model. Any advice is appreciated. On more question too is will drz400 dirtbike accessories fit on a drz400s dual purpose bike? i think they are pretty much the same.

I think its the best "off the showroom floor" Dual-sport. It can be made fairly comprable. You realy need to ask your self if you want better off-road or on-road performace. If you want an off-road bike and your state allows you will get something more capable if you convert the offroad DRZ400 or an offroad bike to be street legal. For the most part accessories from the DRZ400 will fit the S, but there are several differnces. The carb, engine compression, and the cam a more off-road orented on the DRZ400. If you don't plan to get super aggressive with the off-roading it would be a good fit. You will need to ditch the stock tires quick though.

i plan to ride trails about 40% of the time so the s would be more for me. Wisconsin is also kind of strict on the rules u need blinkers hord mirrors and brake lights, so i am looking at the more on road version. How tall is a good height for this bike cause i know they can be pretty tall i am 5,10" at 165. I forgot to mention i have rode atvs for almost ten years now. I really wanna get in to dirtbiking and motorcycling and i am thinking this will be a good bike for that. We have a suzuki z400 atv that i ride alot so i know the power and what its like. What are other bike that are comparable to this one. I'd like to find a nice used one for about 3500. thanx

I agree with danman that it is good off the showroom as far as what it is desighned for. It is probably the best dual sport bike ive ridden.(for the use you describe) if you lean it way down you do feel the wheight (also if it lands on you) but the suspension can be adjusted up quite a bit wit just the clickers. I also think there is quite a few of them out there so parts shouldent be a problem. I am 5'11 1/2" and 225 pounds. my little brother who owns a 2001 drz400s is about 6'2" and 310. so when i ride his bike it feels a little taller than my kdx but i think its because when i climb on the seat of his bike it doesnt sag hardly at all because he is so much heavier. Dont try to due really difficult trailes on it though it is just a little heavy for that but im not a good rider eather.
