Man I'm so sick of getting taxed to death in this country. Today I went and got new tires and they stuck a 2 dollar state tax on each one. I read a report that by the time you finish paying all the taxes, you keep about half of the money you earn. It's like the politicians just sit around thinking up new ways to tax our asses. Think about it...property, income, sales, fuel, alchohol, tobacco, and the list goes on. Geez, every time you turn around you get taxed for something. When is it going to stop? We don't even get anything for out taxes except more corrupt politicians thinking up new taxes. And to make matters worse, monopolistic energy and service companies just keep jacking their rates without any regard. My utility bill is 50% more than it was at this time a year ago. How can that kind of rate hike be justified. I used to really love this country, but it's really starting to slip into the throws of bad socialism without any of the benefits.

Well, that's my rant. Thanks for listening.

You can always move north to Canada, or try Oz or the UK, maybe even Iceland, Denmark, Sweden or Norway for some real taxes. Americans have it easy - try starting with a 50% tax and take it from there. OK, so most of these places have free education, college, and medical care - gotta love them socialist countries !

dont forget the these taxes

most all forms of sporting weapons and ammunition carry a hefty tax. even archery equipment. go look it up at irs.com in the tax code. another tax that i find funny is the penalty that automakers pay when a vehicle they sell doenst meet milage standards. some of those lovely suvs we drive carry a $5000 dollar per vehicle surcharge. guess who pays for it ...........the consumer. one way the manufacturer gets around this is to offer it in an alternative fuel ie diesel or propane. then they get an extra 5k in profit. notice how they dont lower the price.

Canada is no better. We pay way too many taxes. If you are making middle to low wages, you have to give up around one third to half of your income to taxes. The taxes are much less for higher incomes and big business, which is wrong. Taxes just plain suck, plain and simple.

That was a love/hate statement ! :moon:

Now the last I heard Americans were heading north to buy their medication cause its cheaper up there. Don't know of too many people giving up their free education to come down here to pay through their arse for a degree. The trick is to get your degree for free, and then make it work for you down this end - a win win situation ;)

I love this tax system, get a much higher disposable income that just about anywhere else on earth - the downside is the crappy hmo's and poor dental/eye care on the private side. win win / lose lose !

chblock....there is NO benifit to socialism.
Register to vote and know the issues. :)

If you think taxes are unfair, know this...the top 1% of the US wage earners pay over 50% of our taxes. How fair is it for a bum who makes zero dollars to keep collecting money while you pay 15-20% federal taxes? Also how fair is it that the guy who makes a little more money ends up paying up to 39.5% federal taxes?
We have a rotten system when it comes to fairness, and the left leaners constantly try to create apathy twords those who work hard and succeed so folks don't feel so bad about raping their bank accounts....and mostly for the benifit of the earlier mentioned bum.

39.5 plus 8.5 state is 48 already!! Add sales tax, gas tax, tolls (displaced tax), property tax, sin tax should you drink, smoke or drink pepsi, (yes, in California we have now introduced a soda tax cause soda is bad for you), and a million other special taxes that you probably don't even know you're paying, and the amount many pay is way over 50%. Then, like Swift said, the estate taxes when you die, or inherit, are huge as well. Not to mention that if you manage, after paying all these taxes, to save one lousy dime, invest it God forbid, and make a nickel, well, uncle Sam will take two of those cents, too. Tax it all over the damn place!!! ARRGgggghh. I kind of wish that payrolls, sales and all other taxes could not be automatically withdrawn from your pay or added to your bill. If everyone had to hand over cash, or write a check, every time they paid a tax, they'd revolt at the system. What then? Chaos? No. Massive cuts that we would never notice. GRRRrrrrr. .. our government was not designed to take so much our property. Quite the contrary.

LT.

Funny you should mention the soda tax. I heard about this the other day and could not believe what I was hearing.

As you know, they are proposing a tax on soft drinks that contain over a certain amount of sugar because it is bad for us. That does not just mean sodas. Most juices contain as much or more sugar than soda. This tax will include many types of drinks.

What gives them the right to tell us what is good for us and what is bad for us. If this tax goes through, it will open the door for taxes on almost everything we eat or use. Meat is fatty and clogs our arterys. Meat tax. Bakery goods could fall into that catagory also.
Could be a donut tax, can't you see all of the cops sweating that one.

Zeb Yereslaski (sp?) and the LA City Council are pushing this tax pretty hard. It seem them and most people in government have forgotten who they actually work for. US.
Most of them are simply interested in finding new ways of sucking us dry or justifying their own existence.

Time for another tea party.

And let's not forget forced participation in Social Security - one of the government's biggest ripoffs.

And on hidden taxes - anyone looked closely at their phone bill lately??

Trust me, there are MANY taxes that have not even been mentioned here.

When the government takes 50+% of my money, I feel like they are stealing from my daughter's future. And I resent the media presenting taxpayers like me as greedy, just because I prefer taking care of my family insteadof someone else's.

Yep I think our tax system is out of wack, yep I still think that we have the best place in the world to live, my real gripe is twofold, 1 we see too little real benefit from what we (middle income taxpayers) put into the system. 2. It really bugs me to try to make a life for myself and my family and see the very wealthy not pay anywhere near the perportion of their income in taxes that I do. PS I'M NOT A COMMUNIST OR SOCIALIST, I'm not trying to take the reward out of economic competition, but our system allows far too many loopholes for the wealthy. Remember America started with a tax revolt.

Read and weep :scream:

I beleive our budget for 01' was $2,019,000,000,000. The population is estimated @ 284,796,887 for 01. That leaves the average person paying $7089 per year in federal taxes. That's about an income of $19,000.
The taxes break down is
-Income tax $972 Bil
-Corp Income Tax $195 Bil
-payroll tax $682 Billion
-Estate Tax&Gift Tax $32 Bil
-Custom Duties $21 Bil
-Other $40 Bil

Spending breaks down something like this(01 spending was 1,835bil)
-DoD $279 Bil
-Non DoD Agencies $355 Bil
-SS $422 bil
-Medicare/caid $342 bil
-other $117 bil
-Means-tested entitlemnts $111 bil
-Net Interest $ 208 bil
-Budget surplus $184 bil

Now figure in your state level taxes, and capitol gains taxes.
Also don't forget about your speeding tickets and your building/zoning permits.
Wow, after all that research I'm all hot and bothered, can some please pass me a smoke and a coke :p

Little more data, If you subtract from the population everyone under 19(Consider them not paying taxes) and everyone over 60, that leaves 111,596,218 people paying tha bulk of the Federal taxes(Income tax=972bil).
This leaves the "working" person with a small tab of $8,709 per year.
Have a nice day;-)

SR KX is right; the top income earners pay the freight for everyone, and taxes will not be reduced until people FEEL the bite.

IMO, there should be no 'automatic' withholding. Everytime anyone gets a paycheck, it should be for their gross pay. Then they should have to immediately write seperate checks to the gov't for FICA, Income tax, etc... That way people could see it go out every month and they would get MAD.

BTW, there was a previous remark about the loopholes for the rich, and how the rich don't pay taxes. That is largely rhetoric - many of the loopholes have long ago been closed and the 'rich' pay PLENTY of taxes. Demonizing the 'rich' is a propoganda tactic by which the socialists seek to justify government theft of private resources.

Another good article--
Read THIS

Just think, all the money you've earned in 2002 has gone to taxes so far. You don't start taking home your own money until April 27th or so! :|

They way to keep these clowns from hiking up taxes is to vote them out of office. If you aren't a registered voter, then you've got no reason to complain! :D

They just don't get you in taxes, but in making certain things 'obsolete' as well. In California your good ol' propane tanks are not legal to refill anymore, now this state requires a new valve & stem set-up, rendering your old equipment to garbage status...isn't that nice? I don't recall having a say in this. Now I have three tanks I will have to replace in the future when they run out. I expect to pay somewhere between 20-25 bucks a tank, that's a nice $60-75 dollar one time tax I had no idea about. Great.
