If you want to ride in the Fraser Valley area of British Columbia, then check out the Team Grizzly website riding areas section. These are the sanctioned and developed riding areas in the Fraser Valley.

Chipmunk Creek, Chilliwack.

Take the Chilliwack exit off Hwy. 1, and head south. Drive through Chilliwack and Sardis, until you get to a T intersection before a steel bridge. Turn left and head up the Valley. Drive for approx. 26 km until you pass the Ford Mtn. Correction center. Keep on the road until you cross the bridge, then turn left onto the gravel road. Follow the road until you cross a log bridge and then turn left again. Continue until you get to a gravel pit and another intersection. You can park at the pit, but beware some riders use the pit for hill climbs so your vehicle could get roosted by rocks or bike parts. There is more parking down the road to the left of the pits.

A shorter way for riders coming from Abbotsford and points west, is to turn off Hwy 1 at the Yarrow exit. Pass through the town and straight through the intersection to Cultus Lake. Then turn immediately after the big steel bridge across the Chilliwack River. The rest of the directions are the same.

NOTE: There is camping available along the river but the gates to some of the sites have been locked. (due to rowdies) Also use caution riding across Chipmunk Road, since there is vehicle traffic going up to Mt. Cheam hiking trails and into the back bowl area.

Vedder Mtn. Chilliwack.

Take the Sardis / Cultus Lake exit off Hwy 1. Follow the road south, over the big steel bridge. Hang a left at the intersection and head towards Cultus Lake. About a kilometer later, turn right onto Paramenter Road and head up to Vedder Peak. Park after the fork in the road.
A shorter way for riders coming from Abbotsford and points west, is to turn off Hwy 1 at the Yarrow exit. Pass through the town and take a left at the intersection to Cultus Lake. The rest of the directions are the same.

NOTE: There has been some trail use coconflictsn the past between motorcycle riders, mountain bikers and horse riders. Respect other users and signage. Also many mountain bike trails are deliberately blocked, respect the blockage since the mountain bike trails are not designed for motorcycles.

Tamahi, Chilliwack.

Take the Chilliwack exit of Hwy. 1, and head south. Drive through Chilliwack and Sardis, until you get to a T intersection before a steel bridge. Turn left and head up the Valley. you will cross a bridge further up over the river. take the first right (it's right after the bridge and there is a large dirt parking area on the left) there is a camping area just over the first wood bridge.(Near the parking area for the kayaker's playground.)Trails and logging roads run all over. (this is much closer than Chipmunk and offers a good variety of different terrain if you want to do some exploring) I wouldn't suggest riding during the week as there is logging going on but it is great on the weekends. (A. L.)

NOTE: This is the old riding area that was created by the GVMC. Forestry asked us to leave on the account of the enviroment then allowed us to use the Chipmunk Creek area. Tamahi is now marked by a sign to the campground.

McNutt (Blue Mountain), Maple Ridge.

Off Dewdney trunk Road, Drive till you see McNutt Rd on your left hand side (if you're heading east) (Approximately in the 27000 Block) Drive up McNutt till you see the second Blue Mtn Cres. on your left hand side. Turn left and look for the Gate Ahead sign on your right. The access to the road is locked, but there should be enough room for you to park at the entrance and the gap at the gate is big enough for bikes. Watch out for horses and mountain bikers. Parking is limited.

Alternate parking is located off of 256th St. Drive north on 256th, past the Sawdust Shack cafe, gate and the gravel pit. Keep heading north up the gravel road until the road widens on the left side. This is a good location to park. The trail access is on the east side of the road just north of the parking area. Keep in mind that the gate closes at 6:00pm. Please do not park at any location south of the parking area. We do not want riders breaking the law riding on the road and blocking access with their trucks.

NOTE: Access to Blue Mtn. is restricted by the City of Maple Ridge. Currently that is being contested by the PNWMA and other organizations.

Tailings Pond, Hope.

From Hope drive north up into the Fraser Canyon for approximately 10min. The access to the tailings pond is at B.C. Nickelmine Rd (just after Texas Creek) The road should be on the west side. The road is part paved and part gravel. Logging operations have changed the road pattern. You can drive up and park after going to the fork in the road. To get to the Tailings Pond, take the right fork up the steep hill, then take the left side at the next fork, and take the right at the intersection. Left at the intersection, heads to another camping area by the powerlines. The vehicle access to the pond is blocked by a gate. I do not recommend taking a right at the second fork since it leads to the lower gravel pit and there is possibility of high speed bike and quad traffic on the road. The area is popular with quad riders as well. For cars park at the first fork in the road, the waterbars further up are rather large for cars.

Herrling Island, Hope.

It’s a small sandbar island a few km west of Hope B.C. Follow signs on the freeway. Please note that the eastbound exit is on the LEFT side of the highway. The road goes through the Fraser River, so its best to access in the spring or fall when water levels are low. It is one of the few areas that have a large area for quads.

So go out and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for the info

It's nice our neighbor's to the north have such fine areas to ride. Damn politicians are ruining WA more and more each year.

I just hope that this isn't used as a justification to invade us. (Remember the War of 1812. :) :nener: You guys are welcome to come up. Just be careful with the Canadian beer, it's too powerfiul for those unacustomed to it.

Enjoy the ride. :ride:
