I have spent nearly nothing for everthing I have.

Bike 1984 YZ250 - $600 had it for close to a year now, and not a single problem with no money put into it.

Helmet/Saftey Gear - Free, friend in the industry is always good

The most I have spent is probably on gas/oil I ride every weekend.

I don't think you can include the cost of the bike. Thats a given, but it the upkeep and add on's that up the cost of riding. Somethings you have to have. Like Boots gloves etc. but, do we really need fancy bars, pipes, graphics, seats and the lastest greatest duhicky? HECK YA :aj:

Man, I intentionaly don't keep track of how much I spend. What I don't know I can't mumble in my sleep for my wife to overhear. ;)

I do have a stack of receipts but I don't dare add them up

I use the thought of that years depreciation on the bike. I bought a bike 4 years ago, paid $3000,(used) and put about $700 into it while I had it. $3700 total. Sold it for $2500. $1200 for 3 years....about $400 a year. Then the kids bikes times 3. about the same for them, $1600 bike cost on average year. Add some gas-n-oil, maintanance stuff, broken stuff, anouther $1000. DW doesnt count as bike expense because its a family vacation. :thumb:

So my guess would be
1600 bikes
1000 parts, gas, stuff
400 Im sure I spent that I forgot

3000 total , worth every bit and more

to get it running: about $175

i was toying with the idea of hitting the $1,000 mark but the parts that I baught were about this much. most of my gear came from christmas, and i spent my own money on parts and the bike.

:scream: Get some medical insurance! At least I hope that wasn't your co-pay/deductible! My out-of-pocket was only about $1,000 for broken collarbone.

No, most was paid by insurance. My out of pocket expense was close to yours. I dont think i want to add it up but know the $100 here and there for the past 4 months sucked.

I checked $5K and I hope it isclose.
Figured the kids 125 for this year (of course I could budget that down a bit since we sold his YZ85 ;) ). Race entries at least 25 times, fuel to and from, camping, admisson fees has to be in the $1500 area. gear replacement (gotta get him to stop growing :( ) is around $1000. Race fuel this year $250. Trips to 2 nationals and 1 SX (tickets and hotels- don't figure food cause I still have to feed him at home :| ) $400. Bike parts and repairs (dam tires go fast) don't really have an idea. And all those incidentals and gear for mom and dad run it up there.
Didnt figure ToyHauler or truck because we use those for other outings.
Also didn't figure in his broken collarbone and concussion/ medical or my knee surgery if those come in we are looking in the $35K area :scream: Thank god for insurance
I guess I put in thekids bike cost since he usually gets a year or so out of one. Figure to be looking for a 250 for him late summer so he is ready to move up next year. My wife and I are still on the same bikes since the stone age and fortunately we don't break parts very often.

I figure it this way, If I can't ride why work.
Over the years I've often wondered if my Dirtbike Addiction was a hobbie or a curse.
After riding for some 35 years I think it is a blessing. I'm sure I could have a nicer house a better truck/car and more money in the bank but I couldn't of brought my as much joy as riding has over the years. I've met some of the best people riding and have enjoyed some long lasting friendships. Some of the best people I've ever met came from riding dirt bikes. If I had to do it over I would ride more and find a way to spend more on riding.

Well I bought a new bike last year, so I am over the top.
Likely to be up there againg because of braces and stuff.

How about if I divide by the almost 20 years of not buying anything?

Now if I include the cost of hospital bills etc. ....

Thump, I consider DW as camping out .... That way it doesn't look sooooo expensive.

okie, ill take the big 5k for this year. sold a bike bought a bike. bought some gear/parts and oh yeah, i got my first cast courtesy of mx. but factor in all the money i saved the rest of the summer from having to sit in the house with said cast and multiply that by a factor of 2 for dirtweek divided by all the mileage traveled to riding areas/tracks. take sum of all fears and find the sine of desire to ride vs. my wallet and you have 5k more or less.
