Throttle /Slide spring question

I just got done moving my main needle clip position and was putting the slide and assembly back together when I noticed my spring had a slight bend in it. After everything was together I turned my throttle and there was no rebound back to the start position, it just stuck. As I turned the throttle I could hear the spring making a clicking noise at mid turn (wasnt doing it before adj.). So did I screw up my spring or what??!!! I am guessing that the spring needs to be dead straight in order to pull the slide back and not get stuck, and I doubt my lousy dealer has one in stock! Any help is appreciated.

the plastic piece on the bottom of the spring is not seated properly in the slide. :)

I put the plastic piece down in the slide with the notch in the groove?? How else should it go?

oops u got it right then sorry,did the plastic piece go all the way dn in the slide for sure?sounds like something is bound ,did u center the spring in the carb lid ?one more thing ,if u messed w the throttle with the end off the carb and got play in the cable it could have jumped the guide in the assembly on the bars.CAUTION hey worth a check....every inch of the cable.a stuck throttle is not pretty !!!!!

Get a new spring, a stuck throttle is going to hurt.

Don't know of the extent of 'it's bent'...but it wasn't 'straight' in the first place (when you took it apart). It being a fairly long soft spring with nothing guiding it except the throttle cable through the middle (which amounts to no guide at all), it's easy for it to look a bit wonky.

Maybe take the carb out of the boots and see if the slide is coming down as far as it should. Obviously not with no return on the grip..but while looking at it and maybe with a bit of 'digital' intervention (try moving it with your finger ;) ) you will be able to see what's up.

The only thing that would keep your slide 'up' after a throttle twist is some sort of obstruction. Maybe some dirt/crud got in?

Here's a thought. Was the needle (not for the main by the way...but for the needle jet) kinda sloppy after you put the retainer back on? It should be...should easily wiggle around. If it is 'stiff', something is wrong there. It could be hanging up in the needle jet.

That wouldn't have anything to do with hearing the spring...maybe those two things are separate issues.


You didn't happen to use something other than the OEM clip, did you?

Well here is the "fix" I guess. I found another spring that I put in the bike and the clicking noise went away however my throttle does not return of it's own accord, I have to give it a little wrist manipulation then it flies back to closed. I tried lubing my thottle "handle" then my throttle cable but to no avail, it still sticks alittle. My only other thought is those darn handguards have warped my handlebar end and it is a little egg-shaped causing the throttle to rub ever so slightly. The slide has no obstruction because the throttle sticks when the slide is out of the carb dangling at the end of my cable and I twist the throttle and she catches. Looks like a new set of handlebars, its always something ya know...

WAIT i been there .loosen ur throttle assy a bit a slide it away from the b buster a smidge that's all ,it's touching the end of the throttle tube and or the end of the grip now .

uh huh, what he said.

Also check for bound or bent throttle cable and/or a slightly bent needle.
When it's right, the slide will move smoothly in the carb and the throttle will not need loads of spring tension.

..and..make sure you have plenty of clearance in your throttle tube/grips to the mount stud for the brushgard (whatever brand..well, unless oem).

As you say...if it's sticky without the carb even IN there...uh...I don't think it's the carb...:)

Move some stuff around. It'll get fixed.
