Hey guys, i'm curious as to what causes the throttle to stick on a bike? The other day i was riding in my yard on my kx500 and the throttle got stuck causing me to run into the neighbors mailbox which messed up my bikes alignment a little bit and my face has a scrape on it as well as my arms and shoulder which landed on concrete. My foot is sprained as well. I'm just curious what can i do to prevent this in the future? If the throttle stuck on my older 125 or a trailbike it wouldnt be a big deal but on a 500 it can be deadly and im lucky.

Did the throttle stick or, were you unable to shut off the throttle? :whoa: Just Kidding. Cleaning and lubricating the throttle assembly and cable should take care of it.

Next time wear a helmet , in case it happens again .

Check the cable as mentioned and also check the slide in the carb that it is clean and working smoothly .

it could also be if its cold where u ride

In this case I dont think that would be the problem. Its summer in the USA and unless he lives high up in the mountains, it wouldnt be cold enough to create a freezing problem in the cable.

I know that this is tough to remember in panic situations....but try not to forget.....clutch in...and...kill switch, kill switch, kill switch!

I had the same problem only i didnt run into anything I was in an open field. I just took the grip off pulled the tube off and used 1000 grit sandpaper and lightly sanded the bar to get all the gunk off. Used hot soapy water to get glue out from inside the throttle tube. Turns out glue got in there from the grips. works onders now.
