I have just purchased a 2000 KDX200 that appears to be in good shape. In talking with a fellow KDX owner of an older bike he said one thing to be aware of is when doing the Top end you need to re-sleeve. Is this true of all KDX's??

The only time you have to resleeve is if the cylinder is gouged or beyond its service limit.

Quite honestly, your buddy doesn't know what he is talking about. The only time you need to resleeve is if the cylinder is in bad shape and has large gouges in it. Also if you were to get a new sleeve put it you would need to get a nickasil plating coat put on and by the time you figure in all of that cost you might as well just get a new cylinder.

All fine....except not particularly correct.

Outfits like langcourt can bore your cylinder and replate it to spec.

Be sure you have a piston on-hand to do any replating. The replate is matched to the piston size...of which there are about seven different sizes on the 200 (available from pro-x).

Obviously a gouge the size of texas (or rhode island, for that matter) could require a sleeve.

The point is, cylinder damage does not always require a sleeve. The plating can be applied in different thicknesses.
