Torn ACL, MCL out 6months at least

well it finally happened to me....the worst thing that could ever happen to me, get hurt bad enough that i cant ride for almost a year:( well the sad thing is that i didnt even do it riding, i did it at my dumb freshman football game in the first 5 mins of the game:confused: i dont even think we had ran maybe 5 plays and there was a huge pileup, and me being dumb and confused:confused: , i run behind the pile and one of our guys knocks the crap out of a 300lb lineman and he lands right smack on my right knee.. owwwwwww the pain and the nasty noise of the tendons shearing from my knee:o and the nasty feel of the blood flowing out of the tendons....well that was 3 weeks ago. i had surgery last thursday and the doc said im doin amazingly well, im actually doing alot better than im supposed to be hehe;) it will be at least 3 months before i can run in a straight line, and at least 6 months before my graphed tendon gets bloodflow so it will grow and be strong. another bad thing about this is that i just rejetted my darn carb for a little winter snow riding with my paddle tire on hehehe;)

Its not like the football team needed you anyways hunter.:p Good luck with your recovery and you can watch me ride if ya want lol and have fun riding the bike in athletics.:confused: I can't believe you aint going to school tomorrow.You wuss.Well whatever I'm going to ride the elevator with you tuesday lol.:eek:

wow a 300lb guy on your freshman team? i dont think we even ahve a 300lb guy on our varsity team. i tore my PCL a little over a year ago but havent had surgery yet, it only bothers me if i sit on my leg or run for a long time...doesnt affect the riding but im sure i'll have it fixed sooner or later

Ah his exaggerating on the weight.We do have one kid around 260 and some others over 200.;) He just wanted it to sound better.:think :eek:

Hey, sorry to hear that, that sucks. I'm in the same boat, only I tore mine riding. I go in for surgery Wednesday. :eek:

Don't push yourself too soon! Give up that nasty football stuff and just ride.

Hey thanks guys. Yea I don't even really care that much about football cause it's no where near as fun and awesome as riding;) but I stay in it to stay in shape and stuff ya know. Oh and about the sweet Asterisk Cell knee-brace system...I might have to look into gettin a pair of those for Christmas hehe:) I really haven't made my mind up if I want to play next year, but since I'm going to be out a year, I'm going to try to do a lot of weight lifting and conditioning so if I decided to play, those guys will regret ever seein' me:p .....plus I'll look good for the chicks, and nuttin beats that!:confused:

Racer, that's one messed up knee:eek: Good knee info on that site KWJams. What type of knee injuries does the Cell brace prevent?

In my case--

--no brace would have helped.

When front end washed out, the toe of my right boot dug into the ground.

From the knee up I was facing forward--from the knee down -- my foot was twisted straight back. :(

I just had my left ACL replaced 7 1/2 weeks ago.... (this is my 2nd time, right knee in 97)...
I just went riding this past saturday for 2.5 hours....crazy huh?
----- I go with cadevor ligaments, instead of my own. I walk day of and after operation, no crutches.
It was stupid of me to ride, I said to myself I would just do some "parade laps". A new riding friend offered 120 acres of trails to see and enjoy, i offered my bike for him to try, for he is wanting to upgrade...

Listen to me, It is impossible to parade lap with 3 other people riding in the woods with you. I am thankful I didnt aggravate my knee, considering I had a couple of washout spills on the same knee. I do have 2 CTi2 knee braces. But I pulled off later in the day when I started to fatique and make mental mistakes. It has been about 2 months since I have ridden and it starts to jones ya......
I know what it is like, keep doing the therepy, and no matter how great it feels, it is very easy to aggravate the knee and it will swell up on you again and set you back. good luck!!!

Yeah the doc told me the same thing.... Here is my list of booboo's:
Complete tear of ACL
Partial LCL
Partial MCL
Torn Meniscus
Opened left knee to rob spare parts to rebuild the right so it was a double whammy!

Blew the knee up 12.3.00. Surgery 12.23.00, Walked with crutches 12.24.00 and went home... Was with out crutches walking and bending knee 110 by day 7. Began jogging on a track week 4 (doc told me week 12) Passed the electronic Cybex Machine 3 months to the day (normally that occurs @ month 6, it was supposed to just show me how much work I still had to do...LOL) Began sprints and Long runs (5-7 miles a day 7days a week) month 3. Was given clearance to ride month 5 with braces, doc said I was never to ride with out the Asterisk.

Listen to what your doc says about the graft needing time to get blood but rehab the SOB like a freak and you really will be better than before. 6 months is a rule of thumb, the graft will actually take about a year to fully grow all vessles and become "alive" at week 6-8 the graft is at its weakest point, so don't fall down, but the 6 months is the rule because it takes most people that long to get the muscles back to strength along with the graft strengthening. if you slack on rehab you will be more likely to wait 7-9 months... My doc continued to get angry with me over my rehab because I would not take it easy and it continued to swell into month 6, but then again he had never had someone pass the Cybex at month 3.... Worry about the muscle strength and flexibility and let your body heal the inside.

It's 1230 and my surgery is in 8 hours. I can't sleep so I am cleaning my apartment.

Hearing all this and thinking about it has totally freaked me out. My skin feels creepy and crawly just thinking about it. I am not looking forward to it.

6 months off the bike! It's already been 2! I wanna ride!!!!!!!! :ugg:

I don't like this. I felt like crying watching my class leave the start line from the sidelines at the last race. I should be out there. :(

Good luck with recovery racer x4 and FC22

Some people ride for 20 years with no knee injuries, and some people are, well, on this thread. I know what it is like tho, I chewed up the patellar tendon 50% and severed the ACL at the same time. I am one of the lucky few who seem to be ok without an ACL, but still wear a brace when I ride, of course. If my knee starts getting sloppy in the next year, I will have to have the acl re-constructed, tho, and am not looking forward to that.:eek:

Hey Thump, thanks for the input of the 6-8 week crucial part... I was 6 weeks post op on the ACL, when I was dancing at this wedding I was attending (with brace on) and the next week, my knee was all swelled up..Doc said I didnt do anything to the ACL, maybe irritated the knee and some cartlidge.
I/ve been on VIOXX to get the inflamation down and it appears to be working. OH YEAH, got P/T again tonite.

Good luck all, the surgery isnt that bad, it's just getting your stubborn head to remember to take it easy on the knee.....:cool:

Had my ACL done a couple of years ago. I rarely think about it now.
1)Do what your Doctor and Physical Therapists tell you.
2)Don't over do it, and don't under do it.
3)Wait the full 6 months before returning to riding, etc.
4)It'll hurt for 1.5-2 years afterward.....especially when a weather front moves thru.

Like I said, I don't give mine much of a thought now.

Hey don't worry about the surgery firecracker22. The surgery is a piece of cake. I went in thinking that when i woke up I'd be in so much pain that I wanted to die. But I was mistaken. The only pain I had when I woke up was just a headache from all the anesthesia medicine they gave me to knock me out. True, my leg was a little sore but that's about all it was because right when you get out of surgery the doc's place your leg in a CPM (constant passive motion) machine to make your leg move back and forth so you will still have mobility. That machine feels pretty good because it stretches your leg out and contracts it plus they hook you up to a neuromuscular stimulator to stimulate your quadriceps. My doc told me that like the first day of surgery, my leg would be sore, but the next day after surgery, I would supposedly be in tons of pain, which didn't happen. They gave me all these pain pills and i dont think I've taken maybe 6 pills total since last Thursday and I'm already able to walk without crutches even though my doctor and physical therapist tell me to use them. So don't worry about the operation, it's not painful or anything. Sure, your leg gets sore but that's about it unless you are one of the unlucky ones who bombs the operation and are in constant pain which doesn't happen that much. Take care, and good luck!:D

racer_x4, sounds like you had it good after your op. mine was crappy, but i had a huge headace, woke up and tried to sit up, massvie head rush, but my leg was put into a brace and badged up and all, and i had that one for a week, before they took it off to look at the scare and healing, though by that time i had bent the brace a bit. But i was on crutchs for ages, though when i had mine was a pain in the a$$ time, on summer holiday, over christmas and new years so seeing my physio and doc and the traveling from back and forth from the bach was like i said a pain in the a$$. Anyways i took a year or so off my dirt bike, god it was GREAT to get back on, and i never wanna get off the thing now, its the most fun ya can have with ya pants on ;)
