torn tendon in knee...

What does it feel like? I broke my leg and my ankle on a fall and my knee is still pretty tender after 3 weeks...I didnt really notice it cause it felt like I was getting stabbed in my foot for a few days but its 3 weeks later and my knee is still sore. Its sore on the left(inner) side of my left knee(dont know if thats any help)

I have pretty normal movement at the knee but i get a sharp pain at some angles...

I know it might be a stupid question but If my knee is all tore up its really gonna piss in my cheerios. I go back to the doc on a few days but its starting to drive me nuts just thinkin about it :bang:

When I tore my MCLs, the doc could hold my knee in one hand and move my lower leg side to side with the other. They were apparently partial tears because I never had surgery and they're OK now (2 years).

Of course, a doctor can only tell, but it sounds like a MCL tear as HLG alludes to.

I tore mine and had similiar symptoms on the inside of the knee. As long as it is a slight tear, an MCL will actually fix itself. ( Unlike the ACL, or PCL ). It takes at least 6 weeks for that to happen , according to my ortho doctor. Of course, no sports allowed during that time. Good luck.

You may also have injured your meniscus, the cartilge between in the knee joint. I have had 2 surgeries for mine, on the same side no less and now I have 1/3rd of it left on that side. Like Gomer said you can check it yourself, take one hand and put it behind ur knee on the top of ur calf and pull forward slightly if that hurts, its prob an acl or pcl. I hope its just minor so you don't need any surgery, but if you do just take care of it and do not rush recovery time, that can cause you to loose even more activity time. Good luck and get well!

There could be alot of stuff wrong when it comes to the knee, best thing to do is go get a MRI done if that is a option. I am in the same boat as Okiepikapp, my meniscus is torn in my knee, which he described as giving a cushing between the bones, which in turn hurts every time you bend the knee.
Scott, after your surgery on your meniscus how would you rate your pain and level of mobility in your knee now compared to the way it was before the surgery (how was it before the surgery?)? I've been putting mine mine off for awhile and my knee will get seem to be OK for awhile, and then all of a sudden it will give away (while I'm walking) for no reason. The Dr said there is nothing else torn, but I can't seem to think that going in there and cutting would fix it, but I guess every time it buckles it could be tearing just under my own weight? (guess I should lay off the donuts).

MRI's are your friend. I tore my MCL and had to get ortho on it but feels better than ever now. Also had minor cartilage damage but that part solved itself. Sounds like everyone is leading you right.

I know you asked Scott, but I had surgery on my meniscus a year ago. The doc was hoping to repair it, but I tore it in a way that no blood could flow to repair the tear. So they had to remove most of it. After my surgery though, I limped around for months..I still even limp. The pain wasn't nearly as bad as it was before the surgery.
Even now I still have a few problems. I couldn't kneel for the longest time. I still can't do anything that will put a lot of impact on my right knee (running). If I do a lot of walking, then I'll limp. I'm glad I went through with it though. The doc said it could take upto a year or longer for it to heal.
He did also warn me though, that because of the removing of most of the meniscus that later, I will probably have to have a full knee replacement. My knee joint will be bone on bone.

I heard some good news for people that have torn Meniscus. I was recently in D.C trying to help get a Arthritis Bill passed, and there was a Dr. speaking about joint replacement at one of the dinners (and he so happened to focus on the meniscus). Anyway he said he believes they are about 5-6 years away from having a synthetic tissue that will replace torn tissue, that will fuse with your own. I know they already do this with samples from your own body, but the problem with that is, you probably need it there for some reason. Anyway thought it was better than the CUT IT AWAY that they are doing now. Once I start working my legs out more with weights every day, my knee doesn't seem to bother me like it use to.

I asked the doc when we were in surgery (yes, I was one of the freaks who watched the surgery being done) if there was some sort of something they could inject in there...he said, not yet...maybe in the future...

There is an injection for the knee that helps me, its called supartz and after being in the knee for a couple days my knee feels much better. I had a torn mediail meniscus repaired about 15 years ago and now my knee is loaded with arthritis, that is common from the surgery. I would recommend the suparz, it works for me. Theres no pain like knee pain. Roost on Dave . O yeah I just bought a bike and i'm going to start racing again after 20 years , screw the arthritis.

No cortisone is a steroid I believe, this is a form of supplimentary fluid to act as a lubricant in the knee, a sort of repalcement synovial fluid I believe its called. at least I can walk without limping for 6 months after the shots.
