Rider killed in motocross track accident

PLATTEKILL - A 35-year-old New Jersey man died from massive head trauma and a broken neck following an accident while racing at the Walden Motocross Track this weekend, Ulster County sheriff's deputies said.

Henry "Hank" Bennett, of Tom's River, was pronounced dead at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh Sunday evening after he was thrown from his motorcycle, deputies said. Deputies said Bennett had been riding his Suzuki RM 250 motorcycle in race 25 at the track on Orchard Drive when he failed to negotiate a series of jumps and was thrown from his motorcycle at about 7 p.m. Deputies said Bennett landed on his head.

Bennett was treated at the scene by medical personnel and then taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to deputies. Deputies said Bennett was wearing protective clothing and a helmet during the race. Deputies added that Walden Motocross is American Motorcyclist Association sanctioned and all riders compete at their own risk.
