Tripple Clamp Offset

I see and hear all of this talk abotu KTM tripple clamp offset. What is the deal? All this talk about different ammounts of offset in sizes from 14mm to 24mm. What exactly is tripple clamp offset. I feel really dumb for not knowing but I cant seem to find any info anywhere explaining what it is (just arguments about what is best).

Triple clamp offset in combination with steering head angle (RAKE) determines TRAIL and influences handling characteristics and stability.
