Trouble With my kdx power valve

Hey.
i recently took my bike apart to see why it had no power. I had just given it a rebuild and it seemed that my rpms just were not going up after the shifts. it seemed like it wasnt hitting powerband. i looked in the power valves and discoverd that they are caked in carbon. How do I take them out for proper cleaning?
