Holy crap,, with as bad as those injuries are, I'm amazed he was able to stand up after the crash.

Carlsbad, California – In a devastating blow for TwoTwo Motorsports Chad Reed, injuries sustained at last weekend’s Dallas round of the AMA Supercross, have forced him to retire from the remainder of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.

Reed suffered a horrific crash while challenging for the race lead on Lap 7 and was unable to finish the race.

Initial scans have revealed the Australian has torn his anterior cruciate ligament, broken his tibia and fibula, sustained two broken ribs and has a broken T6 vertebrae.

At this point in time doctors are waiting for the swelling on his knee to subside before they conduct surgery.

“To say I am hurting right now would be a major understatement,” Reed said. “I am just trying to figure out what hurts more, the injuries or the fact that I am going to be out for a while with knee surgery.

“This is bitterly disappointing, I felt like I had everything in my corner this time. I’ve never felt more comfortable, from the bike and team to my riding.

“I was genuinely in a position to fight for race wins week in week out and expected to be going to Las Vegas for a shot at the title.

“To my sponsors and fans thank-you for your messages of support, they mean a lot. This is a difficult time,” Reed added.

The TwoTwo Motorsports team and sponsors will regroup over the next week and formulate a plan to move forward.

Reed is aiming to return for the outdoor season but that goal will be re-evaluated by doctors post surgery.

Major bummer! He was riding great! It's a shame to lose such a contender for the title. That being said, RV deserves to be where he is, that kid can ride.

What a bummer I think Chad was the only Guy to give Villi a run this year. All I wanted was to have some close racing and that was just what we were going to have.I hope Chad finds a hard working privateer and puts him on the bike for the rest of the season.

GET WELL SOON CHAD

I agree. He has been working with Kdub,, maybe the two teams will combine resources and make it Amsoil/TwoTwo,, and help Kdub get in the top 3.

Yup... lots of new superstars, up and comers ... etc., etc...

And Kevin keeps it real and LONG TERM. The guy is such a controlled natural talent, he'll be top 10 when he's 50. Flash-in-the-pans (stewart. pastrana, etc., etc...), be damed, Kdub will be turning fast laps and representing the old folks!!!

That sucks. Chad seems to be riding at the highest level he ever has... and it was shaping up to be a GREAT championship battle between him and RV. Now the championship is really RV's to lose. JBS can't stay off the ground... and RD looks solid but hasn't really been challenging for too many wins. As long as RV doesn't do what he did in STL the other year, he should walk away with the championship.

Bummer, I could tell it was not good when he was carried off the track. Lets hope he's back for outdoors like he wants to be.

Really bad news. Reed looked best of the best and was seriously making a run at the title. Maybe they will put a West Lites rider on his bike for the remainder of the season.

With Windham's huge fan following and popularity, I think he'd make an excellent rep for TwoTwo Motorsports.

CR phoned in and talked to the announcers at the Atlanta SX,, he said there would be no other rider on a twotwo bike for SX and he is not sure he will make it for the beginning of the outdoor season but will work with sponsors try to make sure there is a twotwo sponsored bike when the outdoor season starts even if his isn't ready.
