Its these little things like this that usually cause the most headaches. Still not sure if this thing is wired right. Its dim..dim..dim. Well lets just say quite yellow light instead of what I was used to with the oem headlight. I just put red wire on one side of bulb and black on other. Is it just me or has anyone else experienced this? What did you do with the "extra" high beam bulb? Just not use it. I mean I expected it to be slightly brighter since I have got rid of my taillight when switching to MX fender. I asked this a few days ago and ended up more confused than I started with. I never messed with yellow wire or any other. I noticed oem black wire grounds to side of bulb shell. Should I ground my black wire somehow or have I got it right and these bulbs are just crap dim?!? I like the wider beam but its minimum light at best. Help!

Okay, this is how the wiring is for the KDXs that I have seen.

You have a black for ground that goes to the bulb.

You have one yellow that goes to the switch

YOu have a red that is split, one red to the switch and one red to the headlight bulb.

Then in the back you have the regulator. I thought someone said you needed the taillight plugged in back there for that to work, but I dont think you need it. you can always run a LED light in the back since they take about no power consumption.

Other than that, most likely you are using a H4 bulb with that new headlight that is rated at 55/60w or something similar. Your stock bulb was only about 35w. Thus the yellow in the light. Try reving up the engine to see if the light gets brighter and white. If it does, then you need to either ride faster or rewind the stator.

I have the UFO Twins light on my bike, but have not gotten a good nighttime ride yet. From the little experience on the XR600 with those round lights, they are far superior to the H4 type of lights. You can also get those in 20w versions.

The bulb is a 35w....isn't that what the stocker is? Just the opposite...when i revved my stock headlight it got brighter...with the UFO Explorer setup it remains constant. Still looking for answers.............

I figured it out

I FIGURED IT OUT!
For all future spodes like me who need to wire a UFO Explorer headlight...........Take your red wire and put it on upper left of the four connector tabs(upper bulb)---then take your black wire and attach it down to the lower right connector of the second bulb and WALLA you have a nice white bright light to guide you home.

I believe the stock headlight has one filament, so you just hook up one filament on the UFO. When that burns out, switch to the other. Think of it as a spare. If you have both filaments wired in parallel, I'd expect both to be dim. The KDX lighting coil is not capable of a lot of wattage. If you want more wattage, there are a couple of companies that rewind the stator to add more turns to the coil to add wattage. You can find their ads in the back of most magazines.
