Winter is getting closer and the bike will be put in storage in the middle of November. I want to do some mods to it then. I plan on taking out the snorkle in the air box and add a new muffler. The problem is it will run lean. I asked my Yamaha dealer if ther is a bigger jet for the carb, but no such luck. He told me to drill out the original slightly. Has anyone done this? Or know of a better solution? The bike has 4 valves dual carbs and dual exhaust pipes, one would think that a 350 would put out more then 17 HP.:scream: , but that is all it does. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey,
No jets for your carb?? I'm not so sure about that. Try looking up the manufacturer of your carb Keihin, Mikuni, etc. and see if you can get one from them directly. Drilling out your existing jet would be risky at best. If you could determine the size, and get a reamer a few thousandths of an inch bigger you might be in luck. You would need a mill or drill press though to do it right. Do some digging on the 'net, you might be surprised what you find. Good luck.

Well I have been searching on the net for months for hop up parts, the only thing I can find is a UNI airfilter (I bought that 2 months ago) and exhaust pipes (going to get one in the spring). Seems kinda strange that there isn't more parts available since the bike hasn't changed any since 86' and they have sold thousands. I did do some searching on a XT600 and the jets from that bike will work for mine. going from a #125 to a #140. I hope thats not over kill

city bike

out of S.F., a newspaper, did a build up a few years ago on one of these.
Parra built the motor and Kosman did the chassis work and custom aluminum airbox.
He used keihin cr carbs, had megacycle build some weird cams, and kosman built a exhaust to his specs.
You are pretty much onb your own, I think, if you want to build it up.
BTW, I don't think the bike ever ran that great. Overcarburated spinner.:silly:
Sometimes it goes that way.
Maybe Dualsporter has some thoughts on this one...:think
