I am amazed at the number of people logged on to this site during office hours. Is it OK with your employer? Does he know? How to you justify using your employers time for personal business?

I know they know I’m on here. Every site we visit is tracked and reviewed. The way I figure it, I don’t take smoke or coffee breaks and I get my job done. If I was a slacker at work then I’d be more worried. They crack down every once in a while but they are more concerned with visits to porn sites than DRN. In fact I have met a few people on DRN that I have later contacted about business issues so I can say that DRN is my business networking tool.

sometimes I just need a break, something nice to think about for a few minutes. Tons of people take 'short' smoke breaks all thru the day. Is that ok with your boss? does he know? how do you know what office hours are anyways? maybe you should waste your bosses time somewhere else.

Well let me see.... the last two weeks I spent in Kentucky away from my family working 16 hour days, I don't normally take breaks and I'm salaried, not to mention that I too get all my work done and I am very conscientious of my responsibilities! I guess I don't feel guilty!:D

My job is to talk to people, and by the way, have you heard of a graveyard shift. What I get from this is either you don't have a job and for what reason, we don't know or, you are a boss that has a tough time keeping his employees on track,,,,,, try paying them more.

I sign the checks, I pay the bills, and I'm probably technically my own supervisor.

So, yeah, my boss knows, and he don't care as long as I get my work done!

Why is this such a concern to you? Do you pay my paycheck? I work 80+ hours a week, babysitting crybabies that sound just like you, and if you divide my salary by my hours, I make less per hour than most of my employees do. I run a very profitable department, and take no real breaks, so I don't think anyone will ever have the nerve to complain if i take a few minutes out of a stressful day to relax and talk (or in this case type ;) ) about something that I truly enjoy. Besides, I don't think I feel like firing myself anytime soon.

As long as I keep the 200+ Compaq and HPUX servers running, no one gives a rats a$$.

And plus, I'm the one who I'd have to report to anyways :)

Being a Sys Admin has its privledges.

Right on with the smoke break thing. There are plenty of people taking smoke breaks and bs'ing every other hour. IMO, DRN is less harardous to your health. ;)
The way I figure it is I'm salary, I work anywhere between 10 and 12 hour days, sometimes more, very rarely only 8 hours. I very rarely leave my desk, even for lunch. I'm in charge of when I come and go (within reason). If I know I've been tinkering around on DRN too much, I stay later. It all evens out in the end.
Does my boss know? Well let's put it this way, my company was a sponsor DRN's Spodefest 00 last year! :)

Two words
Network Admin :) .
I run the software that tracks the Inet useage, so I am constantly surfing the web to make sure it is working,,, but there seems to be some bug with it where it is not logging MY useage,,,,,, hmmm, well Ill keep working on that :) .
I get the job done, Network Admin is kinda like fire man, you sit around alot (if your good) and wait for fires. Im like the maytag man, you put up a good system and maintance is low. I dont bust anyones chops about the net either, unless they complain they cant get their work done, then I print out the bar graphs and pie charts :) .

smoke breaks

It's funny that people should mention smoke breaks. I just recently switched to a bigger public accouting firm and we audit much larger public entities than I'm used to. I now go to these large corporations and it seems like all people do is hang out front of the buildings and smoke. I audit this one company and this guy goes out every ten minutes for a cigarette. How can he get anything done? If you walk down the streets of center city Philly, it is ridiculous. They make buildings no smoking for our health and now I can't even breath on the city streets! Sorry off subject!

The way my office sits and the way my desk sits, I can see myself coming from a mile away, And boy just let me catch myself goofing off.... I think some time off.... maybe like 3 or 4 days should teach me a lesson.

What's up Mark?

What's happenin? How did everyone make out at Rattlesnake? I am still bummin about the knee, but what can you do? We ever gonna get the BBs back or what???

But anyway, I know exactly what you mean about the smoke breaks. I work for a mutual fund transfer agency and every day i walk in, theres a crowd of the same old poeple out there puffin their life away. I don't feel guilty at all about bein on DRN during work when you see those smokers outside...

That's good stuff Spanky250. That's what I tell the employees when they ask for a raise and comment that Management gets paid the most:D Any time spent surfing DRN at work just delays my departure, and I'm salaried so it dosen't really matter.
