I will be there for sure this year, I just picked a bad time to have surgery last year thats all.

I'll bring some Deer, and Elk steaks, but you'll have to fight GETMETOCA for a bite. I doubt I could bring enough for the whole class. :)

Yes, but it's a weakness, and I'm getting better at pretending it's made of soy products when I'm eating it. :) And I didn't plug the poor thing in the head to eat it. How much you want to bet there's some shrapnal in SirT's steaks. :scream:

Ah, but that is the beauty of hunting and what makes it taste even better. Knowing that you did it all on your own... you didn't camoflouge yourself as some yuppie tea-sip and and sneak down the women's hygeine ailse, then hide behind the Dorito's rack and pounce upon the butcher's section. It was you in nature. Your wits against the animals instincts to see if you could match him and bring home not only a prize but sustenance and carry on the traditions that not only pioneered America but make it what it is today.

So that means you are doing it the old fashioned way and not wasting anything right? Just like the indians :)

This is so far off topic of Reno Ride - but I'll join in.

Two things I want to hunt - bears and wildcats (any type). You place a gun in a predetermined point between you and the wild animal (vicious wild animal). Determined by speed of you, and speed of the animal. The location of the weapon would also include the time involved with you picking up the gun, aiming, and firing. Then someone say go, and may the strong survive. How is that for hunting, and hunting fairly?

I agree Strick. While I don't have any problems with hunting, I certainly don't think there's anything fair about shooting a deer from a blind with a high powered rifle and scope. It doesn't take much skill, it's mostly luck. That said, I'm glad deer are hunted, as their natural predators are basically gone. Maybe bowhunting bear or wild boar is somewhat fair as if the hunter shoots poorly, the animal may have a chance of getting the hunter.

The most fair form of hunting, is paintball I'd say. The prey can shoot back. :p And that makes it a hell of a lot more interesting in my experience.

Based on my success this deer season I'd say the deer still have the advantage. I've never walked so much in my life and it certainly wasn't flat. Heck, a lot of the terrain I would (couldn't?) ride up or down - too loose & steep. We got 3 deer in ~36 man/days of hunting. Not the highest success ratio..... Still had a great time though.

Hehehe...TTRGuy, absolutely I would not waste it if I used it for food :)
But my point, and I will quiet down after this one, is that if I am willing to eat a steak, I should be willing to honor the animal by shooting it between the eyes. BTW, I don't hunt :)

I'll bet my YZ450F you won't find any shrapnal ;)

No head shots. heart shot, 267 yrds. (rangefinder) bullet passed through, no shrapnal for sure.

No blinds were used, just me and 3 million acres of land ranging from 4500ft to 11000ft. I was about a mile from my truck and at least 1300ft up a canyon in a foot of snow. No after-shot rituals, just a quick thanks to the all mighty, and then the work began. Just so you know some details.

For those that don't hunt or can't seem to pull the trigger, that's ok, we all have our place. You can ride with me anytime whatever you eat. :thumb:

See ya in Reno.

Man, you're not kidding. My buddy got two bucks opening weekend. First one on Friday evening took 3 hours to drag out thru a creek bed ~1.5 miles. VW Bug sized rocks & 15 foot drops into chest deep pools. Second one on Sat evening was 15 yds from a skid road that we drove the truck up.

Even with high power rifles and optics it's the deers world out there. I wish I could bring some venison steaks to Reno :whiner:

Don't get me wrong I have nothing against hunting, and actually enjoy good elk meat. I don't hunt anymore, but if I did it would have to be bear and wildcat.

There is plenty of both here if you want to come up, over the last couple of weeks there have been two Mountain lions killed and two captured and relocated :silly: while grooming the runs for the opening at the local ski resort. This could be Xtreme skiing on a new level.

How about a desert bike on the slopes, and say a pistol. The motorized biathalon. I love it!

Less than 90 days to go. The new advanced course is pretty technical, but the waterfalls aren't as dramatic.

with all the talk of hunting I'd better get out the reflective vest. Wouldn't want to be mistaken for an old slow walking(riding) bear :) but if Brian's story is good I might be safe enough :p ;)
