I am working on my 76 Penton and need some new (er?) shocks. I am wondering if anyone knows of sources of decent performing shocks that are a bit more affordable. I realize Works Performance is a great option, and many use the Progressive series 12 or series 13 shocks - but both of those are actually more $ than what I want to spend. (the progressives are much less $ than the works of course)

Stock length is 13.5" - but many guys run longer (up to 15" using the various mounting locations available on the Penton) to quicken up the steering a bit.

The series 12 shocks are availble in the lengths needed, the 13s, shortest are 15". My impression is the series 12 are really not valved for off road - more street oriented. Anyone with experience with the progressives? Any suggestions for other brands/vendors of shocks that would work for me?

Shocks were the most expensive part of my '81 husky rebuild. I got a set of Olins from Sudco for $680, not cheap considering the bike cost $795. You may want to consider a used set of curnutt shocks. They came on the OR model of Huskys in the mid to late '70s, they are easily rebuilt with hardware store parts and very plush for offroad use. I had a set on a 78 390OR and loved them. http://www.gas-it-n-go.com/articles/article/31289/1239.htm
