Often you will sacrifice initial stroke compliance aswell. It seems to be more discernable on the lighter bikes, as opposed to the strokers. Some cornering issues, even with a greater pre-load setting, can be dialed with more rebound damping, ofcourse you would not wan't it to compromise action on other obstacles/terrain.

The ultimate indicator of too much pre-load, is coil bind.

UNplush ride little or no sag possible topping out rebound too fast on small stuff ridinghigh (dont ever ride high ) .
