I am a 15 year old with no experience. I'm 5'9 and 115 lbs and I'm looking to get a dirt bike. I don't know if I should get a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke. I will be riding on some trails but I'd like to to be able to jump some stuff also. Any help is welcomed. Any specific models? Thanks.

I was looking at a 2001 cr125 for 1200 in pretty good condition. Would that be any good for me?

If you have never used a clutch and want steady power, no.
A 2 stroke get ups and goes, a 125 is more difficult to ride on technical trails, but if have the bike adjust it can be done.

I would recommend a ttr 230 or the crf 230

a 125 runs pretty good! but its fast and they run! i know 2 stokes are way cheaper i would say a like yz 80 they are fast as f*** but also if you got more cash the go with a 4 stroke altho i do not like them ha!

A 125 motocross bike makes a poor trail bike for many reasons. If you plan on riding trails, go with a small 4 stroke such as a CRF150, or a TTR125. You may be big enough for a TTR230, XR200, or a CRF230...maybe. The only issue with the bigger bikes may be weight.

but if you wanna jump....the suspension on a ttr125 or a drz125 or even a crf 150 is not that great... this is were i would want like a yz-kx-rm-cr 80/85. but those dont have that great of trail capabilitys, but for your weight i dont think it would be a problem.....

but i do suggest test riding before you purchase! especially because you have never owned a bike before.

A TTR125 would be way too small for someone 5'9" tall. The TT-R125L is the big wheel version that would only be a little too small (32 inch seat height). A great bike for your first ride but it won't suit you once you want to hit the jumps.

The 230cc bikes are also good for first time rides but it isn't a bike that a 15 year old is going to want to be seen on past his first ride. They are heavy, low performance, short suspension travel (lousy for MX jumps). The electric start will be embarrassing......

The 125cc two stroke would be a great bike once you have the basics down. It is not a good bike for a first time beginner. If there is any way that you can get a few hours of experience on one of the above bikes then it could be a good bike for you.

I would recommend something like a Honda CRF150RE. It has a high performance four stroke engine, decent suspension travel, 34 inch seat height.

I've seen some new 2 stroke KX100s for about 3000. Maybe a KDX or something? If you think you're ready for the CR125, I'd be tempted. Maybe you should try riding a few, starting small and working up?
