I have had a number of people asking me what KTM stands for on there motorcycles. My boy said it was Kinetic for the first word. Can anyone tell me what it stands for. Thanks

Didn't there use to be something related to bikes called Katoom? I don't know, just an idea.

Smit is correct. John Penton discovered KTM in the late 60's when he was looking for a lightweight, purpose built offroad motorcycle. Because KTM didn't have any name recognition in the US at that time, for the first 5 years or so they went by the name Penton over here. The engines on those Pentons had a sticker stating "Tuned by KTM."

KTM was a scooter manufacturer, John Penton hired then to build his Penton racing machines. Later KTM bought John Penton out.

Any relation "KTM" & "TM" ? If memory serves me correct doesn't TM make the 65sx engine?
