what is this bike worth (and question about WR200)

I found a 93 kdx200 in my local paper that someone is selling and was wondering what u guys think it's worth. It says it has a FMF pipe and renthal bars, and the top end was rebuilt. Generally, is it good or bad if and engine has been rebuilt? It could be good because it is "fresher", but it could also be bad b/c it means the bike could have been run harder, right? How often do top ends on these bikes need to be replaced? I am guessing it is normal on a 10 year old bike.

Also, there is a 92 Yamaha WR200 in the paper and i am wondering how that bike compares to a kdx200. The only difference i can tell from pictures is that the wr has upside-down forks.

Sorry for all of the questions, but help is greatly appreciated!
thanks...Ben

You can't really be sure of value until you look at the bike. The top end being re-done is of no consequence, unless it was done improperly. If you look at the bike and it's missing the fenders, tank and tires then the value will obviously be diminished. If the bike looks good for it's age and the rubber looks good, then the reverse would hold true. Basically, here in Jersey, a 10 year old KDX that runs fairly well and doesn't need everything replaced would go for somewhere in the 1300 range, but again, that depends on the condition. So for a definite answer....IT DEPENDS.

Ok so i guess if i offer $1000 and go up a little bit if it is in good shape, i'll get a good deal? What about the WR200? I am also considering it.

I've had both the KDX and the WR 200. They are both very similar in weight and power.I kinda like the WR mainly because they are so rare. They only made them 1 yr. which may mean that parts for it may be harder to get and probably for sure would have to ordered. The KDX never chages so parts are probably easy to find. As I remember the WR engine was'nt really designed for a dirt bike altho I think it ran as well as the KDX. When I had to rejet it , there is no main jet access on the carb bottom. It would'nt do any good if there was because you cant turn the carb anyway.Seems like I had to take the gas tank, seat and and even the airbox off just to rejet it. Once I got it jetted right I did'nt have any trouble with it. It's kind of a shame, Yamaha only made them for 1 yr. The KDX would probably be a lot better if Kawasaki had some competition.

I'd go look at it & take a test ride before even thinking of price. Meeting the owner, checking the title, etc. all make a lot of difference in any deal that I conduct. By the way, I've got both a 1990 and a 1996 that are both very clean & stock with clear titles that are going to be listed in the Tradin' Times next week ($1,200 for the '90 & $1,600 for the '96). Check it out if you're still in the market.
