I am looking at my first bike this week. It is a 2003 XR100. What should I look out for as far as wear & abuse on a Bike? Like color of oil, leaks.

Will I have a problem getting this bike green stickered for CA? Its a 2003 4-stroke.

1 More. What does "Putt" mean?

Thanks

1. Make sure it runs, and starts without kicking it 500 times
2. Make sure the clutch works properly(clutch does not slip, etc.)
3. Check the body(plastics, and definitely the frame!)
4. Check the chain and sprockets
5. Definitely ride it and go through ALL the gears
6. And like you said, check for leaks

don't forget about the airfilter!

and buy a service manual, it will save you a whole lot of questions.

If it has really high time the footpegs might be worn down. check the shock shaft and fork for pits/leaks. Find out what sprokets come stock on the bike and if they are still the same that will give a good time indication. Check for seat cracking wearing. Check to see if its actually a 2003, for hondas this is really easy, its usually printed on the frame. Check the steering stem, swingarm/linkage, and wheel bearings by wiggling the wheels. If the clutch and brake levers are highly polished only where the fingers go thats another time indicator. If there are sight glasses on the front brake and case you can check fluid condition.
