What tools do you carry for trails?

I carry a crescent wrench, a spark plug or two, and a spare clutch lever.

Fredette rider wrench for spark plug, rear axle and front axle. Small assortment of wrenches for common sizes on my bike (8mm, 10mm, 12mm 14mm, 17mm); small T handle with screw driver and 6mm and 8mm bits, sockets and a ratchet in all the same sizes, spare plug, zip ties, duct and electrical tape, pocket knife, a 2' section of fuel line to transfer fuel between bikes by hookoing the petc*o*c*k together, and I'm sure a few other items.

You mentioned in another post that you are crossing streams - you will need whatever it takes to get your airfilter out, float bowl drain plug out and a spark plug change.

Look at other things that might leave you stranded - for example, your chain guide could get bent in the ruts or rocks and keep your wheel form turning. Do you have everything you need to take your chain guide off?

If you have a good set of aluminum hand guards that extend beyond the levers, you will be much less likely to bust a lever.

Very true. But I haven't gotten them yet, so I do the spare lever thing instead. :)

I carry lots of water(3L camelback), a couple of Met-RX power bars, Advil, assorted bandages, iodine, cell phone, leatherman, spyderco knife (they damn near cut anything), wax string, zip ties, F-4 tape, spare plugs, ratchet, 6 in extension, assorted sockets, JB Weld (in case of disaster, desert is unforgiving), mini feeler gauge set and an extra master link. I have the Cycra Probillet hand guards, they are sweet! They defect about anything, rocks and sagebrush..etc........

Dirt Bike Dave: I never thought about the extra fuel line, thats a pretty good one!

I agree with everything that everyone has said so far. I just want to add a front tube to the list. It can be used in the front or the rear if needed. Zip ties are also good to bring along.

My Camelback M.U.L.E. contains (in order of most used)

3L of water
5mm alen wrench used to often to adjust bark busters after a fall.
10mm box end wrench to un-tweak fork tubes after a fall.
Allway 4in1 fiberglass 1/4" bit screwdriver featherweight and strong
ViseGrip Schrade 5" locking pliers w/knife and 1/4" cross/flat screwdriver bit in the handle... very cool

Small bicycle air pump. Some like to use CO2. I once went riding with a friend who was riding a quad and his tire got a leak in it about 12 miles away from the truck. We had to pump up that big a$$ tire five times on the way back. CO2 might have pumped it up once.

QuickSteel 2oz tube (like JB weld without the mixing and won't leak out all over your pack either)
One of those small LED pinch flashlights.
20' of rope in case I need to tow someone or get towed back to the truck. That yellow rope that electricians use to pull wire thru conduit works real good...small light and strong.
3oz’s of premix. Those small bottles of premix they sell for weed-whackers work good for this. Dump it out and fill with your favorite premix, seal it tight and put the bottle in 2 Ziploc bags to help prevent a premix soaked backpack.

In a small 3x2x1 zip up pouch I carry

Small zip ties
Sparkplug
Tube repair kit
6,8 and 10mm sockets with a 1/4" screwdriver bit to 1/4" socket adaptor for use in the ViseGrip Schrade or Allway 4in1
Valve stem remover
2 extra valve stem cores
Valve stem cap
One size bigger and smaller than current running main jet.
1 extra jet needle clip.
Leatherman Micron multi-tool

All this weighs less than 15lbs w/water and is hardly noticeable while riding.
