the lever that the clutch cable goes into that is behind the ignition cover, does any one know how much "free play" it should have? mine moves 1/2" before it has any resistance. i was wondering b/c on other bike with it on the lcutch cover once the lever was past a 90 degree angle it was time ti change the clutch or cable adjust ment.

That lever pushes on the clutch pushrod and the mechanical advantage is very high. This is why the working range is small and it has some freeplay before it goes into the usable range. This lever, (clutch actuator I think), is a part that will usually outlive your CR, unless there is some debris allowed behind the ignition cover. You cannot tell cable wear by looking at this actuator because it is constant. You actually use the cable adjuster to keep that lever in its working range.

you seem to know how exactly this lever works. but i have yet another question.... why wouldn't the lever actaully sit below the 90 degree pooint so that way it will reach the maximum amount of "tension".
b/c my lever sits at a 90 degee angle when siting and will pull beyond that point when i pull in the clutch lever, which would be beyond the strongest point?
one thing to add i did measure my clutch springs and they are at the worn spec limit, and i'm almost positve this is my problem, but could some one guide me in the right direction b/c i might be wrong. :bang:

As your clutch plates wear, the lever (ignition side) will move downwards, taking up the freeplay at your clutch lever (handle bar side) which you will have to adjust as time goes on.

I recently changed my clutch plates, discs, and springs. There was a lot of freeplay at the levers (both sides)after the change, so much to the point of not being able to disengage the clutch. I re-adjusted it using the lever starwheel adjuster (works connection perch type) and the threaded cable connection.

what i don't understand is shouldn't the lever in the ignition cover go up as your clutch wears?

it would make more sense if a new clutch would put the lever down more, that way you wouldn't have to pull in your clutch lever in as far to disengage your clutch?

i really nedd help on this as i am getting ready for some races soon and i can't figure this out :bang:
