I still listen to punk, hell it started when I saw my first snowboard vid.

ALL, Big Drill Car, Decendents, Black Flag, Bad Religion, Husker Du, Rancid, NOFX (old stuff, anything after and including Punk in Drublic), Agent Orange, Down by Law, No use for a Name, Pegboy, Sick of it All, SNFU, Snuff(awesome punk band if you ask me), Aversion (good luck finding any of their stuff), Celebrity Skin(another impossible band to find).

I forgot about 10 other bands, I'm not into this Sum 41, pop-punk crap, best concert I ever saw was NOFX, No Use for a Name, and Ten Foot Pole. This was back in 94, when NOFX WASN"T played on the radio...

I'll also be blasting my Crusty soundtrack at DW'02 :)

Some stuff I listen to....

Metallica
Rammstein
Fear Factory
Slayer
Offspring
Godsmack
Linkin Park

Just recently, I've taken a liking to Death as well. I have one Kid Rock CD (Devil w/o Cause) and I like it, but I've kinda labled him a flash-in-the-pan act. I don't like any of the other stuff he's done besides that one album.

Im sorry I just thought that when you named all of those groups earlier, you meant that you liked them. On another note you said that you liked rap, but rap ended 10 years ago. You were listing pop whether you like it or not.

Oh yeah and it is "Chill".

Seriously, monkey, you may want to work on your spelling! You could start by using spell check, making note of what words are being corrected, and memorizing them.

We all know what you mean either way, sorry that we give you such a hard time. Heck, there's probably a misspelled work or three in this post I did.

Trust me, if you don't improve your spelling soon, some day you will wish you did! You can't rely on computers and spell check all the time...some day you may lose an opportunity because of bad spelling (such as having to fill out a job application on site) and you will be embarrassed.

Just trying to be a good DRN friend and help 'ya out a bit.

Music is music

There is some good stuff and some bad stuff. I won't pretend to like it all but it's okay if you do. The more I hear the less I'm impressed. Music to me is an expression and if the artist portrays a bad attitude in their music I'll tend not to like it much, I'm an optimist, don't need anyone bringin' me down. If it has a cool groove or hook I'll probably like it if the lyrics don't suck.

The one thing I've noticed over the past few years in the rock / pop arena is the lack of solos in music. Can the guitar players of today's music not let loose on a rippin' solo on a song or two? The solo is a musical climax of the song so in my perspective a song without a solo is like sex without a climax, anyone agree with me here?

I'm not sure if it's legal to list adema and Godsmack together like that...adema's latest "poppy" tune sounds to me like N'Sync trying to be hard...that's cool if you like them, but I wouldn't call them "hard".

Re: Music is music

I agree with you on the fact that there are less solos in songs today as compared to 10 years ago, but PLEASE don't turn this thread into a debate on the quality of today's music. I just want to know WHAT you guys/gals listen to. :aj:

Re: Re: Music is music

Ya, you're right, I did sorta dance around the topic. I'm not bashing today's music by no means, after all I'm in a band with a new release so in all actuality I am part of "todays music."

To answer your question; I can't really name one particular band but I do like some of my music hard. You didn't put any date limitations on the music so I'd have to list POD, Puddle of Mud, Nickelback, Van Halen, Dream Theater, Creed and so on. I also like stuff like Pat Metheny, George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Alan Holdsworth and so on. I don't care for Britney Spears type of music. Don't like Jessica Simpson either even though I use to hold her when she was a baby (worked with her family).

To summarize. I like it hard sometimes, do you?

Actually I am growing pretty tired of the whole Nu Metal scene. Every once in awhile I will listen to some older AC/DC or Metallica...but the newer stuff is not doing it for me. On the topic of solos (sorry to get off topic) I don't miss them much...don't get me wrong, I like a good thoughtful and raunchy (not as much of a paradox as you may think) solo now and again...but I can't stand musical "wanking". In short, solos good...shredding bad.
I listen to all types of music (not a big fan of most top 40 stuff, although some has merit...Incubus comes to mind).
Everything from:
John Scofield / Nora Jones / Curious Fools / Cracker / Ryan Adams / Whiskeytown / Robin Ford / ....ahhh, forget this...I would be here all night.

Not that it is a massive collection but I am closing in on about 2000 cd's and it is a pretty eclectic collection...so I will just say I listen to about any genre as long as the music is "good" (relative i know) and the lyrics aren't too cheesey!

My favorite guitar solo is in the song "Stir It Up" by Bob Marley. Never thought I would say that.

I still groove on some Van Halen too. I like really early AC/DC, like from the Bon Scott era.

Dirty~D~ - for a change try Gypsy Kings Greatest hits, you may have a change of heart - really good stuff. Now you could always try Italian, as in Andrea Bocelli - cool music.

I like a good mix of everything, but punk is probably what gets my blood pumping, The Clash, Ramones, reggae I love Bob Marley and UB40. For the head banging stuff, AC/DC, love the Razors edge album, fire your gun, and thunderstruck just about knock me out. Favorite band of all time - Queen, especially Freddie Mercury's solo albums - can get a good mix of hard rock, pop, rock'n'roll, jazz, classical, opera and even some metal - Brian Mays guitar work is the best.

Other crazy stuff, talking heads, gotta go with psycho killer.

You could even try some South African music - say what ! - yes, Paul Simon's Graceland showcases the best of SA talent - you can always pick up a Ladysmith Black Mabazo album (you know the Mazda Zoom Zoom music and lifesavers theme music) never know until you try it.

I had better pack a trunk of music for DW02 - could be fun :)

Can't seem to face up to the facts
Tense and nervous. . . .can't relax

Ditto on reggae and Queen. Brian May's guitar always had a killer sound. Played some great licks, too.
