KDX in garage

Well, my KDX (98 FRP modified 220) is in the garage because I'm not lucky enough to be out riding it at the moment. Seriously though, I keep thinking about a newer, more technically advanced bike, but the KDX just performs so well I can't justify the cost. I guess Jeff Fredette was well ahead of us all since he rode them for about 20 years or so and brought home 20 or so medals from the ISDE. Now, that is a true test of a machine. It has to be the most under-rated dirt bike ever. Let's see, it's also quiet, easy to start and ride, requires little maintenance compared to most other machines and is affordable to boot. What's not to like? I think I'll have one in the garage for some time.

I live in an apartment and spend $70 a month just to store my bike. It is worth is because of all the enjoyment I get out of it. I got back into riding after researching the best woods bikes out there. I chose a KTM 250EXC. Wrong choice for me! We now call them (Kill The Man) I jumped a tabletop and cleared it by over 60 feet. The bike was sprung for a much heavier man and I pogo'ed and looped the bike out. This was not the bikes fault but made me realize I needed a bike that was more on the lesure side of things.... besides the seat SUXS! :) The KDX is absolutely PERFECT in every way for me!

I was about to buy a 2 stroke KTM, but on a trip to Hatfield and McCoys I saw a VERY barely used 220R in a local shop. The owner talked me into test riding it...I was hooked. It had almost enough power and rode great in the tight gnarly woods. I bought it for just over half what the KTM was going to cost. I put another thousand or so in power mods and suspension goodies.
Now I have a bike that I think would outperform the KTM I was eyeballing and still saved quite a bit of money.
I don't think I'll ever go 4 stroke unless I'm forced to. Too expensive to rebuild and from what I've seen the "improved" reliability is not there.

Shouldn't that be KDX Type-R?

Quick, queue the pic of the KDX with the huge coffee can silencer ;)

just got mine

Well Im a newbie here, So Hi too all , and just picked up my 1st kdx 200 a couple weeks ago, its was actually the last bike i went to see that day, after canvasing all the local dealers for used bikes, and driving 1hr and a half to look at a 97exc 360, that looked great in the pics he sent me...too bad I think the pics were from when HE bought the bike, it was crap and all worn out.not like the pics..so after about 6hrs on the road i got home and then decided to go look at the 2000kdx 200 about another 1hr away in the other direction, got there before sundown and took a few passes, bike had great torque, pulled the front off the ground every time in second, started on the first kick with a half hearted kick at that!, this bike screamed, i was really impressed, plus this guy had taken REALLY good care of it, super clean. I had a rm 125 a yr and a half ago that got ripped off at my buddies house so i havent had a bike since, i wanted something that would be fun to take out and play around with all my old 125 and 250 friends and would be something ill never get tired of, I think i found it in this bike..now if i could only find all the plasic im looking for (change to black ) id be ok, anyone got any links for me feel free to send them to me thanks..Dave
