You were a little vague as to if she has ridden before or how aggressive she is. If I was buying a lady a bike, I would probably choose something like an XR250..... it should be able to keep up if she is aggressive without delivering so much power that it wheelstands when she "punches it".
Doubt it's a good idea to scare someone you want as a ridding partner with the HP of a 2 stroke right from the start. The XR's are forgiving and seem to hold their value pretty good so if in a year or two she wants something else you should get a good return on your money.
Right now I have an older XR that I want to start my g/f on next spring. By the way you never said what province you are in, maybe if we are close we could get them out at the same time/ place, allways helps to have another beginner along.
thanks for the advice bake.I was thinking about the drz250e
because of the e start. But Ithought at 250lbs it would be to heavy for
her to pick up.The xr250 is probably about the same weight.
At her size (close to mine) the weight of the four stroke isn't as much of a deterrent as the power of a 2 stroke would be for a beginner.
I'm 5'10" and a little lighter than her and I started out on a KLX300 and rode it for 2 seasons.
It was a great bike to start on and it helped me learn HOW to ride but, once I tried out a CR, I wanted one. Don't know why but I love the power and it certainly gets over the obstacles we encounter much easier than my KLX. It's fun to shock the people I meet too! ;)
After riding the KLX for a season & a half, I decided I wanted something a bit more challenging. I tried out a couple XR250's, XR400, KX250, CR250, YZ426F and the CR500 was my choice.
I still like the KLX but, it seems tooooo easy to ride. The XR250 seemed very similar but not as good for the steeper hills (for me).
The electric start to me is a waste of weight but then I haven't had to kick and kick and kick and kick on the KLX after it was loaded up or tipped over for quite awhile. (Secret is to full throttle the beast when it's in that situation THEN kick it HARD till it starts!) The CR is pretty much a one kick machine once it's first started.
The 4 strokes are much more forgiving in the trails. Any of them around the 250 - 300 cc newer (95 on up) would be pretty comparable from what I have seen. Anything less than a 250 will probably be pretty cramped for her.
Thanks bbbom for your help.I bet you make some heads turn on your 500.
I'm impressed.I guess a 250 4-stroke is probably the best way to go for
a beginner. Then I can borrow it if my bike breaks down.heh heh heh
Just jokin.
I 'll get her on my bike when the weather smartens up here.I went for a little
snow ride yesterday it was fun till I cased it on a little jump my back went
oww!So i've been hobbling around since. But I think its gettin better. It was worth it.I had to get my fix.
