Hey guys, new to the forum, but found it whilst searching for a solution to my WR250Z starting problem.
This bike has been has been very reliable up until two weeks ago. Went around a very wet enduro track no dramas, always starts first second kick, then bike stopped dead second lap into MX track.
Now all I get is the odd backfire when kicking.
I have spark (albeit weak), new spark plug, fresh fuel, and stator coil resistance although higher than spec, is intact.
All other electrics appear ok.
This leaves me to another dicovery, the rubber gromet was out of place on the rotor cover, where the wires run into the stator unit, now I dont know if this has allowed water to enter the stator coils damaging them in some way, but resistance apperas ok. This can only point to a crook CDI unit???
Experience thoughts would be appreciated.
I am a sparky by trade, and by no means mechanical, very much a read and fix type of bloke.

All comments welcome.

sounds like timing. Pull stator cover and check flywheel and stator. Key might have sheared and flywheel moved. See if plate with wires is still secure or came loose.
