Speedy,

You should be able to fit the 185 (precursor to the 200) or any 2 valve 200. The only years that definitely won't fit are 1984-85 200s. They have a four valve head (RFVC) and were similar to the 250s of the same years. In 1986, Honda went back to the 2 valve engine and has stuck with it ever since.

Norm's right. Any XR 185, XR 200 (pre-R models), XR200R 1982-1983, XR200R 1986-current.

In fact, an old XL 125 split head model will also fit - won't have much power, but it'll bolt right in.

The XR 185, and early XR200's had weaker kicker gears and skinnier 3rd and 4th gears. The newer 1986-current models are a little stronger. Same horsepower tho.

I think the 1983 and earlier XR200R had a differant off-set on the counter shaft sprocket than newer models. So that would mean the eng. and rear sprockets wouldn't line up. Check with BBR first they will know for sure.

Thanks. The guy had an 88 engine in there and said it bolted right up so I should be fine. Now I just need to find an engine with carb and electronics.
