Hi Friends,
I know we're all still reeling from the Desert Tortoise closures, but I have/need a favor. I'm writing an article for a North San Diego County based magazine about off-roading, specifically having fun, but still respecting the environment, etc. I'd like to add some quotes from fellow NORTH COUNTY residents who off-road (bike, jeep, buggie, whatever!). So, if you're interested and have something to say, other than "F* the environmentalists," and you live in Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, San Marcos, Escondido, or Encinitas, send it to me at: hmoulton05@yahoo.com, include your name and the city you reside in. It can be a sentence or a paragraph. I'm not guaranteeing anything, but I will let you know if I use your name and quote. :worship: Thanks for your help!

Yeah. I'm kinda bummed about that. :bang: I'll just look elsewhere. I mean I'm not asking for a "Save the desert tortoise" campaign. All I want is, "yeah, we clean out the fire pit and don't ride in restricted areas" kinda stuff. Ah well. Maybe no one lives in N. County...?

:rotfl: Im not trying to make fun of ya.It is kinda rediculous though that you have not got one response, maybe no one lives in n.county anymore(yeah right). You could go off what you have seen though with the good people out at ocotillo and glamis and where ever do to take care of the places that we all ride to secure it and make it fun for generations to come.Everyone that I have seen or go riding with makes sure to take care of there soroundings so that when we come back everthing is the way it has always been before we got there and not filled with a bunch of garbage and empty beer cans.A clean place to ride is a fun place to ride.I had a couple buddies take me over to ride over by lawrence welks resort off the 15 on the west side because they said that there were some fun trails over there. They were fun if you like jumping over old burned out cars and engine blocks made as jumps in the middle of the track. And as we came over a hill there was a group of people drinking and shooting guns. After that I told them that I would never be back there again, its just to dangerous.Any way I hope more people get the chance to read your post and I hope you find what your looking for.Imn tryin to get to amago this weekend but it will probably be real soupy. :) :ride:

 Hey Killer, thanks for posting what you did - I may steal a quote or two from you - as a former N. County resident, but you'd have to give me your real name. You can email it to me at hmoulton05@yahoo.com. :)
P.S. It's really not dirtbiking unless someone is making fun of me - c'mon! :moon:

Ok, I'll make fun of you Tink.

But seriously now, maybe you should expand your horizons to include other areas. I would be glad to write something for you but I live in Riverside County. I've raced in San Diego County, does that count?

This land closure thing is really big. I'm glad you are interested in doing something about it at such a young age. Usually people don't realize how much land we are losing until they get to be an old fart like me. We have the numbers to do something about this. We just don't have the enthusiasm.

The closure of the washes is very important because in not only stops us from going down a wash but, even prevents us from crossing a wash. You may have seen the mobil home being washed away on the news in the Santa Clara river. The guy that owned the home tried to put a retaining wall up to protect his home from the river. He and other neighbors were going to pay for it and the mobil home park was going to help. The enviro's stopped him from doing that because they said there was some endangered plant in the wash. He lost his home and the one next door may go too. Now there is water from bank to bank in the wash. What do you suppose happened to the endangered plant?????

It's all a bunch of crappola and the enviro's are using false science and law suits to get their way. They are Socialists not Enviromentalists.

They file suit after suit inorder to get their way. This takes much needed funds away from the BLM and the Forest Service, the agencys in charge of protecting the land. The BLM and Forest Service don't have the funds needed to countersue, so their only option is to close down the land until it goes to court. But, in the mean time, the enviro's get their way. The average citizen does not know what is going on. It is up to us to inform them either by writing letters to the editor of your local paper or by talking to people one on one.

It might also be a good idea to write your representives and suggest that these people be made to pay for these law suits when it is proven that they used false science or outright lies inorder to file the suit.

Dont get mad, get involved.

Thanks Ol'89r. I would expand on areas I cover, but I'm not totally in charge of the story. The article is for a North County mag, so my editor wants No. County info. She wants to do a feature about the deserts sometime, at which point we would expand to include neighboring counties.
Thanks for the insight about everything. I'm going to do my best to give both sides their fair share - but I'm obviously a little biased... :)

Dittos to what Terry said. Hey Tink, I live in the Hi Dez in the Victorville area. If you can use it, our philosophy is to cart out more than we brought in, and to 'harass' illeglal dumpers by following them until they give up for fear of getting caught. In our particular area illegal dumping is more of a threat to our environment than off-road vehicles. Now if we could just get the general public to see this.......

photos ... Get an article in the paper with photos of folks dumping. Get a big lens and have some fun.

Send closeups of the license plates to the police. Save the trash, so it can be sifted through for evidence. Tutuman may have some more thoughts.
