YZ 250 2000 Gearbox prob

was out riding this weekend and after the gearbox being a little stiff between shifts for the last couple hours riding it now only goes into the false neutral instead of fith gear,
all othe gears shift smoothly and sweetly but i just cant get fith, whipped the side case off and you can see when you try to change up into fith the selector will go no further than the neutral position between 4th and fith it just wont go the extra bit to enable you to engage fith gear?
any ideas as to what may or may not be broken would be appreciated before i split the casing and take a look at the gearbox itself, selector mechanisim within the clutch case all looks in perfect order.

bike all clean so no debris around the gear lever effecting the shift.

remove the shift cam tensioner and release the shift cam bolt check to see if the pin or the plate you removed is damaged. also check to see if the bolt is bent, stripped or defective. This is a common problem on older yamaha's. I am thinking that yamaha has not corrected the problem
