A few weeks ago there was a post about the difference between stock pipes on 05 & 06 YZ250's but today I noticed that the silencer on my 06 is 1&1/2" shorter that my friends 05 and my YZ125 is 3" shorter. Do you think I would notice anything if I put the Shorter YZ125 one on my 250? Do you think the difference of 1&1/2" from 05 to 06 made any difference? Another question, on this forum for the last week I have only one page of post's does anyone know why?

You'll probably notice a loss of performance. Your bike was designed and engineered quite well, don't think that you can grab a silencer off some other bike and slap it on there for performance gains. Look how much time and effort goes into aftermarket exhaust systems, and in many cases they have trouble improving much on the very well designed factory offerings.

Hello...

I'm the nut that noticed the different between the early 05 and late 05 and 06 YZ250 pipes. I do know that the latter 05 YZ250's that have the same pipe as the 06's have the same size silencer too. But I never measured the early 05 YZ250's (with the different pipe) silencers.

Does your friends 05yz250 have the early 05 pipe (the one without the collar/sleeve), or does he have the late 05 and 06 pipe (the one with the collar/sleeve)?

For anyone confused about what we are talking about, Check the link http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/showthread.php?t=124033 to see the pics of the 05 and 06 pipes....

Hmm... that is very odd. I would sy someone cut it short but then I am also thinking your the only owner so you would know.

1-1/2" shorter is surely not a slight error from the factory!

That true the stock stuff is very well designed but I think you would see a slight improvement with a PC304 silencer.

that is the way to go!
