YZ250F trail?

I've narrowed it down to the YZ250F and WR250F. I would like a new 03 WR but dont really wanna spill that much cash right now. There are plenty of YZ250F's under 4,200 in my area and was wandering if it would be a bad choice to buy a yz and mod it for trails. If I were to buy the YZ wut would be good mods and aftermarket parts to make it fully trail capable? All responses are appreciated.
