Those bikes are not designed to sit and idle. If there is not any air flow through the radiators they will overheat very quickly. The headpipes are very thin and many of them do that. You may be able to help it a little by re jetting the carb.
You can always wrap the header pipe. Some folks advocate doing this on all thumpers for a couple of reasons like increased exhaust velocity, as well as rider comfort.
Be careful if you use header wrap, it can trap moisture and lead to premature rusting of the head pipe.
Anyway, the header is probably always hot enough to glow after a few minutes of idling, but is only noticeable when in the shadows or not in broad daylight.
