Had an utter blast.
Weather was perfect, track had been groomed very nicely Saturday morning, women's race was 3rd up and track was great. Laps were 3.9 miles, took us a bit less than 8 minutes per lap (did 6 laps). Last year our women's group did 5 laps each - we improved! The difficult part for us tho was that they combined us with the 125's, including the experts....talk about feeling like a rock in the road, geez do they fly by... and altho they're pretty good for the most part, Jen did get knocked down once, so that's kinda scarey. The race is over when the first guys hit 40 minutes.
I am slow out of the gate, Jennifer is still Queen of the First Lap - plus she beat me this year, but I felt like I raced really well and didn't fall once - a first! They posted unofficial times: only have relationships to the other racers tho, not overall times: Jennifer beat me by 22 seconds... which isn't much, however when you calculate back its almost a quarter of a mile - shows how much distance you lose when you do crash! Figure we were averaging about 30 mph (Randy's odo said he hit 72mph on the straightaway through town!), so was fast and furious. Jen finished middle of the beginners (10 total?), I was last of 7 or 8 novices, but within a minute of 3rd. Winners of each class did 7 laps.
By Randy and my age group race on Sunday (40 and 50+ novice and beginner), the track was Way Rough... but I felt tremendous, started near the very back, passed a BUNCH of the old guys, got 6 laps again...AND... was only 29 seconds behind Randy (again if one can believe the unofficial times)!! WooHoo! We figured all my Oregon Schooling (thanks again Nicole and Kerrie!) helped me make up time on him in the corners, there was a curvy rough ridge road plus the mx course. When they went well, I was standing on my outside peg, bars cranked in, and gunning it.
We'll post the links to the photos when they show up on the web, saw a few tho - mine is a bit better than last years, Randy's is better yet - Jennifer's is all sky.... a big wow.
My funnest moment was when we got back to the car and talked with a couple old guys who we'd chatted with before the race, Randy told them I'd done 6 laps (which I wasn't sure of at the time) and one goes to the other under his breath "No way did she do 6 laps".... Haha! Did so!!! ;-)
