I was thinking about making my 125 a 144 but can i just get a bigger bore and piston or do i have to send it to a specialist like gorr? I have a local shop that has bored previous cylinders for me.
It just seems everyone has gorr do it but cost wise it would be much better this way for me...

Thanks

After its bored it has to be plated. That was $200 of the $450 that I paid with Gorr. The piston/ring kit was $100 of the $450, so the other $150 went for port/polish/head work and case mods as well as re-assembly.

Worth every penny as far as I'm concerned. My RM has so much more power I would think its worth $750 - if I had that much $$ at the time. LOL

If you haven't seen my first ride report - here it is:

I can now add that since switching to race gas, getting the carb/jetting cleaned out and adjusted, the bike is even stronger.

I took it for a couple runs up the street the other day on a 40 degree day. Roll on the throttle in 4th gear and the front wheel came up so high I had to let off or I would have been thrown off. The difference from stock is just incredible . . .

My only hesitation is that I think I had a plugged slow jet for a long time, so I think the bike may not have been running right stock . . . Nevertheless, the bike is now stronger than any 125 has a right to be . . . :aj:

Big bore kits are great, even better to have the right person doing it. There is alot to be said for doing things yourself but there are professionals that do it better and faster without the mistakes. Eric has the experience and the reputation for doing the big bores and I will attest to the remarkable power they can produce. Eric built the "Mamba", 99 KX 310 project bike. I was the fortunate recepiant of the beast. If I decide to overbore my YZ, Eric and Rich will have first shot, hands down.

Ohhh your just making me more and more jealous!! I like that your mom said "That thing sounds mean" SWEET!!

I've never actually been close to a factory 125, but I saw a post or two on here commenting that the E.G 144's sound like a factory 125. The 144's are running 37-39 HP, and the factories (when they still used 125's) were apparently about 40HP.
