04 Pr2 Rm85

I'm looking at an 04 RM85 with a long rod PR2 motor. The bike is very clean and appears to be well taken care of. But I don't know anything about the long rod motor. My son is coming off a KX65 but has been off the bike for 1 year. I hear the RM85 has a nice powerband good for beginners. But what about the long rod motor. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I don't know what effect the longer rod will have but the RM has a power valve and so it smooths out the power delivery. Your lad should find it much easier to manage than a CR85 or YZ85 in the early stages.
